I started a fauxhawk a couple months ago after doing a magazine article on mohawks. Decided today to get a full mohawk with the sides of my head buzzed down to the scalp. It is about an inch or so tall and extends down the back of my neck. Fun to see people's reaction though it is not as dramatic as many of the hawks on this site, but enough to draw attention. Although I like color, maybe too extreme for me, at least at this time. I'm an older man, so I'm hardly being mistaken for a punk rocker or band member. However, I like the hawk look and all the creative possibilites. Have to get some photos taken. I also like buzz hawks, maybe will end up with one since I used to have buzz cuts when I was in college and the military. Duh. When I sported my new hawk off today, I had five comments. From oooh - nice do - looks good - can I touch it? - I see you went all the way. Guess that's 3 out of 5 that were complimentary.
How Tall Are You With and Without the Mohawk:
5' ll 1/2" without, 6' 1" with - might add another inch.
agree, nice hawk - did you do photos of all the other colors? Great to see a series of them. What color did you like best, if you had a favorite? Was reaction about the same for any particular one? GH
I have photos of most of the colors of my hair, but purple, orange and flamingo pink are lost. but I have green, yellow, blonde, blue, red, brown, black. I've just made another youtube video that features pictures of these colors.
I like red the best, its a very vibrant fun color to have and when it fades, it comes out to a very nice orange color and eventually fades to a cool flamingo pink color. And I think the reaction to faded blue was the strangest
Red and Blue were definitely my favorite colors. But the only reason I liked red better was because of how hard it was to maintain blue. With blue, I would have to redye my hair at least every two weeks if not every week. You can see in my pictures all the different shades of blue/light blue/teal/bluish blonde I have. But blue is definitely a fun color to try out. And I think having gray hair might make it really easy to dye.
glad you liked the photos, I get a kick out of the expression and hand gestures of that marine every time I see that photo.
Well right now it went from about 4 in high to a racing stripe do to a flash fire incident with a deep fryer! The plan is to just let it grow for as long as I can And pick a new color every time it grows out a couple inches. I'm actually aiming for a super long hawk to wear in a french braid and be able to wrap the tail around my neck like in the old kung fu movies...
when i get thanksgivin pics i will put them up its about 4 inches with nothin but skin on the sides thats reallycool that u rock a hawk still even if it isnt big and colored
my hair is really fluffy when not in a hawk and people who know that constantly want me to leave it down so they can "pet" it. What about you and the blue would look amazing i am thinking of coloring mine the color of a shiny ney penny
so i was thinkin napalm ornge from special effects dye you should chgeck their stuff out they have amazing blues i finally began fanning it about a week ago and now it looks so much taller when fanned and i completely shave mine about once or twice a week
Yeah, we'll see. I usually throw a pretty big birthday party. We'll see how many mohawk rockers make it.
For a real mohawk get together I'm thinking maybe New York in summer. Maybe something like rudestock or woodhawk. Figure that way lots of people will be out of school and others will be taking summer vacations. Gives the site some time to grow as well. We'll probably be around 2000 members by then.
pretty cool man. it does get tough to keep up when your hair gets longer. ummm, i've played a few shows lately, nothing good, just a few small venues. and ya, i model every now and then, but never as a mermaid. haha. anything new?
oi.
thanks man. i play solo in tampa a bit, and my band Youth Riot plays orlando and tampa and lakeland alot. and i'm a promoter on the side for extra money. and ya i do model alot, and ya the punky look sometimes hinders me, but i have wigs and i can model for more socialy acceptable things as well. my emails addlehead3@yahoo.com.
as for how i keep my hawks up. i have naturally straight hair, and basically i just hold up a section and spray it with hair spray, then i move to the next section, and so one. i only use hair spray, everything else weighs your hair down. to prevent your hair from curling when it gets hit with hair spray, be quick and have the hair dryer waitng right next to you. as soon as the hair spray is on the hair, dry it. that will help.
