I figured somebody might want to see the video that was shot.
A how to video on spiking your hair with soap, hair glue, and hair spray. It was done mostly for fun but also because I have gotten more than a few people who ask me how it works. :)
i have wavy hair and the soap makes it smell like whatever soap your using =) mine always smelled like the awesome irish spring scent hah. people around me did not complain =)
It's pretty easy to sleep with a mohawk up, as normally it doesn't actually touch the pillow.
I don't know this from experience but I think that if you move alot when you sleep that it could be an issue. I'm a pretty sound sleeper, and naturally sleep on my side anyway, so my 'hawk holds up pretty well during the night.
Mines is only short though, might be different as it gets longer.
Surprisingly, my mohawk stays pretty well and its pretty long. I don't even worry about it much when I go to sleep and roll all over it. In the morning it just takes a little recharge and is usually ready to go again.
My mohawk will have about 10cm long.
During night I mostly sleep on my back on side. However I'm rolling a lot when I'm sleeping.
The thing that stops me from changing my haircut is the fact that I'd have to spent a lot of time (and to some extent also money) to make my mohawk stand every morning. I have no friends with mohawk, so I really don't know how does this routine look like.
I do my hair up usually once per week. Not one day per week mind you but I do the process once a week and it stands easily for 7 days. Sometimes I take it down a bit quicker which I have been doing recently since I stopped using soap and am now working on growing it longer and healthier so I wash and condition it more now.
Sleep as a poster before said is on my side. I move a lot and I am fine. I even lay on my back at times and it just crushes up or to the side but I just re-adjust it when I get up and it is fine.
I guess I should mention too that I don't really give too much of a shit how perfect mine looks. I don't like the crown gap but as for it being centered or even raggedy looking, no care at all. It starts off looking pretty good on day one and two but since I rarely touch it up through the week with more spray or anything, it starts looking a bit more "bad" =)
To make it straighter you can try tilting your head either down as in look to the floor and then comb out. That has helped me as it tightens the skin there a bit if that makes sense. I don't know, worked for me.
You can also try combing the bottom area up more towards the top of the head and then let it fall back into place and settle.
Not sure about the shorter mohawk, but after thinking about it the other day and working with my longer hawk, I think pulling the hair to as straight as possible is a good idea. Kind of like how bridges have to have very straight bars to be strong. The back, where I think everyone struggles, is probably harder, cause its harder to pull real straight than the top. Just another thought along the way.
when I spike my hair, i wash it - then blow dry it upside down on the highest and hottest blowdryer setting, until it looks fluffy and foofy. then i seperate it, and back comb the section in the middle all the way to the back. then i hold up the rest of the pieces and spray 'em and dry 'em. don't know if that makes sense, but it works for me. :) i tried watching the video, but my internet is too slow to load it.
don't know if anyone's a "hair expert" on here, but can someone tell me why my hair is wavy at the roots, and not anywhere else?
The hawk in picture is not very long and i do not see that is useable to so much things in your hair.
I have a bigger mohawk and after i´ve learned how to do it i only need a strong hairspray and a hairdryer and 2 combs.
i put some hairspray on and take the hair up with the 2 comb- one from left and one from right side and at the peak of hair i press them together so that the hair can´t get away.
Then i take the hairspray and pull a full dose over and then i use the hairdryer - after doing that strand by strand a few times the hawk is ready.
and it stands up for 5-7 days only puting a little bit hairspray on every morning.
believe me man I know the method =) It was the first I ever tried but as said before, my hair is ridiculously thin and did not work that well with hairspray method. So I used this one for the longest time, then knox when it got longer, and now that I have a better blow dryer with a lovely comb attachment I can finally do the just hairspray thing.
And I agree that it works great and is very fast and is better for the hair because I can wash it and condition it often so I don't fry my hair again. Ultimately, if the method of hairspray and dryer can be used it is overall the best and most convenient.
