Not able to to work based on my mohawk
So I applied to work at a local athletic club, went through the interview process and they offered to hire me on the spot. I told them I needed time to think cause there was another job I was considering. Well I went with the athletic club. 10 minutes before I was to fill out the paper work, I recieve a phone call. It was the head therapist of the club and called to inform me that for me to take the position I would have to cut my mohawk. She explained to me that she wanted to hire me, the manager of the branch I were to work at wanted to hire me, but some guy above both of them got wind of a massage therapist with a mohawk and said I would have to cut it. If not I could not work for them. I was in shock, because if the head therapist was impressed with my skills and didn't care about my hair then what was the problem? So how can a guy who wasn't invovled with the interviewing process say that I was not qualified to work for them based on a haircut he didn't even see? I had it combed back so it wasn't fanned or spiked, very toned down. But still would have to cut it. So I turned it down. I felt if I cut my hair I would be comprimising my integrity. The head therapist agreed with me.
And to top off my frustration, my father calls me out and asks what am I trying to prove, or what statement am I trying to make with my mohawk. I first explained that I just liked it, but now I want to show the world that as a massage therapist I should be judged on my skills and not my hair. I still dress professionally, If anything the fact that I take the time to fix my hair shows I care about my appearance.
I want to show that people with alternative hairstyles aren't troublemakers and can be a valued asset to any company or orginization. I will continue to search for a job and am determined to be hired no matter the hairstyle.

So dear mohawk enthusiates (is that spelled right?), I am proud to announce that I am Alaska's first mohawked massage therapist!!! (not entirely sure about that but high probability that it is true) I am working at bodyMechanics LLC and I have had at least one client a day within the first week. None of my clients have had a problem with it and many say I have done a great job. Which is the way I should be judged, on my skills and abilities, not my hair. So HAHA FUCK YOU ALASKA CLUB!!! YOU JUST…
