Mohawks Rock

Whats the deal with all of these little kids babies children whatever with mohawks?
i mean yeah i smile when i see a little kid with one its pretty fucking sweet.
but why did all of us get ours? not because our parents that it is cute and cut us one in the summer time.
but because we wanted to be different that the rest of the "normal clean cut" hairstyles or just simply because you like to rock a fucking mohawk its pretty sweet having one. but by giving these kids their mohawks is that really making them different and allowing them to be themselves? its pretty much the same as giving them the flat top or buzz cut or whatever the rest of the kids have. soon enough the mohawk wont be original anymore everyone will have them for awhile the, then the mainstream kids will get sick of them and the fad is out and what about us who already had them to begin with?
Im not saying to give your kids a mohawk? because who the fuck am i to tell you what to do? im just curious what sparks the excitement of giving them these hairstyles?

Well I don't know about other parents, but my kiddo wears one and he's 4.
In my family its tradition, I had one that used to stand at a foot long back in the days
when we'd spike it with glue, sugar and water and Orange Juice pulp and Jello.
Now, my kid has one. But for the record, he asks for it.
He also has a fit if I don't spike it up in the morning for school.

My other kiddo (6) has long blonde hair past his shoulders and looks more like a skater dude, that's his style. I let them be who they want to be. I don't push it on them, although I do think they are both pretty cool. And where we are, in Toronto, my kid was the first with a mohawk, now there's another kid. So its not that popular with the kids, although I am glad to see a resurrection of the hawk in older kids. Makes me nostalgic.
... sorry I meant to say the first in his school. oops.
see i like that thats to awesome
they are who they want to be
but i know alot of parents who cut their kids hair like that and the kids dont like it
and thats what i dont get
Good for you.
My godchildren are allowed to wear their hair they way they want as well. One has a 'hawk (he liked mine), one has the long-hair skater look (and he skateboards), one has a crew cut (he likes the military look). The girls have pretty traditional hairsyles.
my son had one when he was really little but then he didn't like having his hair cut after about 1 so he grew it out now he's 3 and has a mohawk again because he saw some old pictures of mine and asked for it so i gave it to him it's his hair not mine. But i would never dye it not till he's old enough
Also, the other reason I let him wear a mohawk is because I am Ojibwa and the Mohawk symbolizes the haircut of the warrior going off to battle.

I figure we have to raise warriors, fighting the injustices of oppression, I was not meant to raise sheep. Therefore, he deserves to wear the hairstyle of the warrior.

Wear them with pride! :)
now thats badass
I AGREE
I differ with your forum to an extent.
I my self have a hawk. "A nasty black dready hawk". I to see all theys young children with suberban parents rocken a buzed hawk. I understand where you are coming from. It's like the rest of all theys "normal" people with theys some what half hawks working at macys and starbucks. It's sickening! But what about a hard core, die with your boots on, fuck the government punk rock parent that happends to have a small child. I have 4 children my self. My 5yr old daughter has been wanting a hawk for 3yrs. She orignaly had dreads and then we cut her hair in to a pixie cut thinking it was more apropriet for a child. She hated it, still insisting to have a pritty girl pink hawk. So we have been waiting for her hair to grow long enough to cut a rocken hawk. If I forced her to keep the pixie cut then I would be like the rest of those fucked up people. She to thinks a hawk is bad ass. If I did'nt let her have a hawk then I would'nt be letting her express her self, "now would I". So where dose my daughter fit in this category and where do I. So are we excused or are we like the rest of those robot minded people. But what if when my little boy is born in march and I decide to cut his hair when it grows in so he too can rock the hawk like his mom,dad and sister. Where would that put me. I mean; he won't exactly have any independence or understanding untill atleast 1yr. So should I wait untill he's 5yrs too. So should I cut his hair at all. I guess I can let it grow untill he says diffarence. "Thats what I did with my last child". He still hs'nt wanted his hair cut and he's 4yrs. I love his long beautiful hair.
That chick, what I am gathering is people are pissed that the original reason for a hawk is not respected. It once stood for independence, free thought and non conformity. But now kids in gap advertisements are sporting hawks and fauxhawks.

But there is another side to this topic as well... and that is the punks that are judging the parents without really knowing where those parents came from. If you see me now, I look like pretty much everyone else, talking to me you would know otherwise. So I might be one of those mom's that could be interpreted as a "poser" because my kid sports a hawk. I might be sneered at for "jumping on the bandwagon".

So perhaps we are all guilty of judging those by the cover and not by the content, which goes against, what the hawk stands for. For me now... I say things are always going to become mainstream eventually you can't get away from it, but if you truly stick to your roots, you will pass that on to your kids. Hawk... or no hawk as for the rest who don't really get it... fuck em, its really not worth it.
TBH, my kids would be born with one (if I ever had one in that 1% chance) hahaha.
I was born with one. Really. The Mr. has one. He swears up and down that our kids would be born with unnatural colors too, with the amount of times I/we colored our hair :-P

And if my kids wanted one, I'd let them. It's hair. It's harmless. I think it's fair that they have freedom to explore and try things, within clear boundaries of what is acceptable and what is not (example: smoking at the age of 10 is not acceptable). Not exactly social norms.
Who knows, maybe one day they'll genetically engineer people with hyena 'hawks at 'birth'. =) Mmm...imagine if you could get some of those natural colours sported by tropical birds...
