I came across a page yesterday, of interesting logical arguments about if there is a monotheistic god, it could only be evil not good.

The points raised are worth reading and what amazes me is how rarely these are raised for debate.

To answer a question like that you really need to back way up and define what we mean by "God"? Tedious for sure but necessary in this case. If God is to be referred to as omnipotent, omnicient etc. You would naturally have a "being" that held Infinite Power, Infinite Knowledge and Infinite Bliss. (With attributes of Infinite Silence, which we hear between each vibration, Infinite Space, which we intuit by attepting to "fill the firmament" with stars, Infinite Intelligence which science shows us is in every cell of the human body. etc.) This entity would not only be every"where" (as if their were anywhere else but right here to be, "right here" being everywhere and nowhere at the same instant) but would by necessity be every"one" too, because It follows that if their is "A" God there could be nothing or no "one" else. If you are Infinte Consciousness you couldn't create "more" consciousness, so you couldn't ever create any "one" else. Everything you created would have to be made from pure energy or thought vibration and would be, as they say, an illusion playing with time and space. Infinite Power and Infinite Consciousness would be everywhere, and we see that they are.. The only reason we question these things is because we are not experiencing, Infinite Bliss. Eastern mystics have fascinating explanations for why that is. For me, the concepts of Evil or Good are illusions from the apparent duality of our perception, having no basis in ultimate eternal truth, but being helpful constructs for those of us who still perceive ourselves as "separate" from The Universe.

Quite a few interesting ideas there.  One in particular makes me curious, I can't see any reason why there can't be more than one 'Infinite'.  Since all infinite is, is 'unbounded', 'endless', etc. there could be more than one without limit.

Infinite(or 'all') doesn't limit things to one, you could even have co-existing, overlaid infinites all covering the same infinite aspects.  Mmm...an infinite number of identical clone gods covering all the same aspects. :D

As to 'consciousness', or 'awareness of self', well, that phenomenon comes and goes, it's not a persistant thing.  Sleep, anathesia and other drugs can remove it.  I suspect we need to clarify what definition of 'consciousness' is there.  'All Knowing' doesn't match up with 'consciousness'.  Being aware of everything doesn't mean that something(s) are neccessarily everything (again, overlaid concept works too or just inter-linked).  Thoughts don't seem to have anything to do with vibrations or pure energy as far we know.

I don't see why science shows 'intelligence' in every cell of the human body.  The two are unrelated.  Science does not posit intelligence as a component of cells.  That would be introducing an 'unknown', which isn't science explaining.

Could spend a lot of time on that post, but I must sleep. :(

I believe that if there is indeed a single, all powerful God then he would have to be cruel and sadistic to allow so much suffering misery and famine in the world. And because of this i find it more comforting to belive that there is no God :)
