Mohawks Rock

I used to put up my hair every day, and now due to working everyday, I put it up on Friday.  I usually have about 20-45 minutes to put up my hair, but everytime I do it, it ends up like this.. How do I get a full fan hawk? or even liberty spikes? I can't seem to grasp the back.

(Btw the suit was a mindfuck the most hilarious results the whole day)

Mohawk stats:

  • about 4-5 inches long, I haven't measured in a while
  • combing with hairspray in always seems to make it fall
  •  I use got2b hairspray + glue..
  • I've had this one for about 6 months so far
  • its about mid of eyes to mid eyes width.
  • never been colored, hair is quite thin
  • the tips seem to curl to the right.

Well what i notice with your hawk its really full in the front and gets thin in as going back. I hate putting my back up, its always a strain on my arms and neck. I would try maybe putting the middle up first, or use hair ties to seperate your hawk into even sections. then put up section by section. Now getting the back to stand up straight try spraying your hair at thebase of the back lean your head flate agianst a book or piece of cardboard spray more and blow dry. Peice-y and hawks with gaps can usually be solved by having a wider base. Idk how that will help you but i hope it does, you could always ask somebody to help out with the back.
if I had somebody in the house besides my dog who despises my mohawk, I would love to do that. =) Actually my dog doesn't like it, he barks at me and bites me when its up..

i think my local ghetto barber has been messing the back part
haha my cats like it they chew on it and swipe at it i think they get high off the cheimcals in the hairspray ha
lmao, that reminds me of how goats and elephants try to lick psychedelic rocks just to get high. The goats or lions or some mountain dwelling animal climbs on dangerous ledges to lick a rock to get fucking stoned
hairs too thin to fan mate no worries mines pretty fucking similar, much better idea to liberty spike and easier on the back as well. get yourself a decent hairspray none of this combing through or whatever just have a shower wash your hair but dont condition, blow dry and then seperate into 6-8 spikes i do six or seven myself any less looks silly anymore spikes are too thin then hold up first spike how you want it to stand and spray from base up with hair spray, soak the fucker, then keep holding and blowdry until its hard works everytime then spray tips wet and twist into a betterpoint to stop that curl and blowdry with it in your fingertips (may burn fingers) do this all over will cause no probs with back of it too. and plus it takes barely anytime at all. for extra strength get some gel or glue and go over the tips and blowdry again be careful of too much weight though. try this my hawk now 10-11 inches and works a treat if it doesnt for some reason let me know and i'll fill you in on my super secret recipe ;)
sounds pretty easy to do. thanks for the advice, i'll do it this friday. Maybe I can make it so that I can fit headphones for once
To add to this, this is how I do my spikes:

Shower, shampoo and condition (leave conditioner in for a couple of mins (this might not be necessary for you as you don't have bleached or dyed hair)). Once out of the shower I towel dry, comb, then blow dry. I keep brushing my hair once it's pretty much dry and keep drying it until it's all fluffy. Once my hair is fluffy I separate it into sections using bobbles (normally 5-9 sections, I prefer odd numbers, as you end up with one right on the crown of your head, otherwise it looks a little empty). Pick up one section at a time, spray from a distance of at least 6 inches (I used to spray really close, but distance helps for some reason) start with the base top 4 inches or so (the rest I leave until later.

Repeat this for all sections of hair.

Next spray and dry the rest of your hair (leave the space it takes for your fingers, no need to burn them).

I like to strengthen the spikes one at a time using more hair spray, I only use glue to fix it as it is, rather than to add strength (I feel that the glue doesn't make it stronger, just last longer and waterproof it somewhat). I generally do it until when I shake my head they don't move at all.

Once it's all pretty much done get some glue and do the tips, the glue should be thick and strong enough that they don't bend or fray (I just 'pull' the glue through, I don't twist them, the glue should be strong enough).

Then I get some glue and work it into the rest of the spikes starting from the base and going up (if you go down it pulls hairs out of the spray and it looks messy), be careful not to use too much for the first application, as it'll bend or even collapse, you can always add more coats later (I normally do 2 or 3 if I'm going to a gig, it'll last 5 days easily).

Don't blow-dry the glue as it goes kinda molten rather than drying, and sometimes takes longer to set than it would normally.

(Ox, this isn't a "your method is shit" or anything, just how I do mine).
i didn't think about styling when fluffy, that'd probably be a lot easier to liberty spike it.
you can still get it to fan if you back comb it (tease it first). I always start mine out by teasing it. either into a fan or into spikes. then i style it as normal. spraying it and blow drying it.
i can probably do that, but my time is limited in the morning. thanks I'll keep that in mind for the weekend.
Since my strip is really wide, and my hair relatively thick, I don't know if my method is very useful to you. But I just wait until my hair is dry, lift it with my hand and spray it. If i do liberty spikes, I have to do two rows cause its too wide. But then, I have this paste shit that doesn't dry but is good for shaping. Then, I spray away.
I forgot how I got it like in my profile picture.. it was over a year ago though.

anybody use a hair straightener for their fan or to get ultra stiff spikes?
