Mohawks Rock

What kind of attention does your mohawk attract?

First off, I'd like to say that Im going to be hacking myself a mohawk this summer. I plan on doing the duct tape method. I'd do it sooner but I plan on getting a job in a month or so. I figure if they already have me hired and THEN I get a hawk, they wont get rid of me.

But I was wondering what kind of attention your cut gets. Im sure you get plenty of it , but what kind. Good, Bad, Enthusiastic, tell me your experience.

i was wheeling down the street and these kids said my mo hawk was sick! lol i hope thats a good thing!
When I had both my hawks (not at the same time) I got 99% positive/good comments on them. My first one was hot pink, so that attracted a bit more attention than my second one (which was just jet black). One really cool instance that I will never forget is when I volunteered at a Blind Olympic Games event in Colorado Springs, CO. A lady and an athlete (blind athlete, of course) came up to me and asked me if it was alright if the athlete could feel my hair. I said "Go for it". The athlete touched it and said "Whoooooaaaa. That's fucking awesome, man!". I felt pretty cool then, and needless to say, after that I had some more "visitors" wanting a feel. There were also tons of "photo ops", most with people from different countries due to the fact this was an international Blind Olympics event.
First of all, having tried both DIY (with clippers and mirror) and having a pro do it, I'm totally on the side of having a pro do it. As for work: what body mods do others get to display, e.g., piercings, tattoos, other types of hairstyles? You can get a pretty good feel by looking at those already working. If the boss seems cool it might be good to ask before you do the 'Hawk.

My 'Hawk is short, as I just had it redone, and I'm not sure I'm going as far with mine as some of the others here have. Having said that, the reactions I've had was overwhelmingly positive both to my original DIY and the pro version, but in the interest of full disclosure, west Sonoma county, California is one of the most liberal, open-minded communities on Earth. The most unusual reaction I've had so far was from a man in his early fifties, who described having had his hair forcibly cut into a Mohawk as a child as punishment for some transgression. I really didn't know how to respond to that one; otherwise my only regret isn't doing it sooner.
Recently, I was a bride's maid for one of my best friend's and I had liberty spikes for the ceremony. Well, her 3 yr old son was staring @ them and I asked him if he wanted to touch them. He replied "NO!" rather quickly. So, I asked him what he wanted to do. He replied "Cut 'em off and put 'em on my head!" All I could do was laugh.
It is rare to see a full-grown hawk in public. This subject is always gonna be talked about it seems - "Courage Willow"
True that it's rare. That's why I'm proud to wear mine..... :).
I also wear punk clothing and boots when I'm not at work.
hey man good thats exactly what i did. they didnt say anything. but as to the reactions u just gotta ignore em'. thts what punk is about getting ppl to stare tlk behind ur back, and not caring.doing things outside of the norm. Fuck the system! ahaha
im rlly bored btw...
well good luck with ur hawk
my Mohawk gets a fair bit of attention from all sorts of people i get lots of photo's taken of me and have a lot of weird and wonderful conversations about my hair it's gotten me in a fair bit of trouble but i love it although my school doesn't so it's gonna be gone in a month
My best story was when i was at the mall one day before it opened. I was sitting at the food court and there was a group of old poeople about 7 or 8 of them sitting at a table. First one of them gives me a look of horror and then points right at me. So of course they all turn around are are staring for about 5 mins. So i walk over to thier table, introduce myself, and ask if i had something on my face, and if they could be as kind to tell me so i dont look like i ate breakfast with no hands. They all laughed and asked me all the generic questions and giggled tlike old people do. They all touched and had a grand ol' time it was a pretty fun encounter
I found elderly people have been the most positive really they ask alot of questions but tend to be really sweet about it. Middle aged people men are the ones that tend to be jackasses, with comments like, "did you get electicuted? " or "did you lose a bet?" or "something musta really scared that guy." Middle aged women just gawk and stare. Little kids love it. teen girls giggle as you pass. teen guys try to stare me down.

I had a massage client come in, and I had a single horn that day. As I talked to her about what she wanted worked on, her eyes would slowly wonder upward then she wouldn't even be listening to what I was saying. Just staring at my hair.

Though I have had some massage clients actually write on my evaluation that my mohawk rocks.
Thats awesome! lMAO
I just got my mohawk done, and I do advise getting someone else to cut it for you. It's pretty inexpensive since it's a normal cut and it's easier to get it straight if someone that can see your entire head does it. ;D

My boyfriend really likes my mohawk; and for me that's all that matters. My female friends become very angry when we go out and I don't put it up, usually trying to force me into a bathroom so that I can lol.
