What do you think of punk within the last 5 years? Wether you think its too mainstream now, or just as bad ass as ever, I want to hear what everyone has to say.

Although I do not consider myself a punk, I have mixed opinions about it. I hate how most people consider every kid with a sum 41 T-shirt and an odd sort of hair cut a punk (thanks to MTV) But, I also respect the people who consider punk a mindset/ way of life, and not a fashion trend.

Anyways, I want to hear what you think. (even if it's telling me that I don't know shit about what I'm talking about)

Seg with you its hardly an arguement
I love this.
Brian i suppose im going to have to speak simple so you can understand. Your a hypocrite. An unintelligent one for that matter. You are unable to properly defend your opinions and beliefs. Your argument against anarchy is pathetic. You are exactly what the system wants punks to be young, naive, and brainless. Its ''punks'' like you that make people think punk is just a harmless phase kids go through. You talk about ideologies with no understanding of them or their roots. Try learning more about government, science, philosophy. Read for christ sake Locke, Bacon, Plato, Marx, Darwin. The greatest threat to the system is a smart punk. Learn about your government find the loopholes. Stay sharp and stand firm. Learn your rights and protect them. Why do you hate the goverment cause a punk song told you that you should? Whats wrong with the government? How do you fix the problems with society? Do you have any idea? No, your too concerned with the fashion and music aspect of punk. I mean fuck do you really even really know what nihilism is? Learn, the system stays in control by keeping people stupid. Public schools hide the truth and rewrite history. Educate yourself. Find the truth. But till you do that shut the fuck up.
Ocay, I'm wasted, but still I'll try to make some sense.

So I completely agree with you, I don't consider myself as punk, OR punk as a fashion. I hate those people who have emo haircuts and say that they're so punk... I thak that being punk is more that just saying that you're punk, something like an order or something!

Punks nowadays? It sucks! Punk and punkrock nowadays really has become more like barbie girls or something.. cuz' that really fucked up, there's nothing from the oldschool punk sound, though I enjoy the lyrics, you can really draw paralels with your own life and shit... over and out :D

p.s. Sorry for spelling mistakes, I'm soo drunk, so... ahh, yeah, whatever! :D Hope you can trase my thought!
Well, where i'm from its beginning to become a trend you see random fags going around wearing studded denim vests and they don't even know the half of it. They don't know the kind of opinions and mind-set punks really have they just think that what we wear is badass so they lurk and try and be around us. So basically i think its BECOMING mainstream. But then again i was walking through the skatepark in my town and people yelled "Punk's Dead!" So its a topic to ponder on. But here we do have a crew of real punks who know what the hell we're talking about. But fuck all those poser's who follow real punks around trying desperately to become one of "us."
On the issue of hot topic, come on, seriously?
Punk doesnt belong in fucking shopping malls. What happened to being against consumerism?
I feel even more sorry for goths, theyve been completely shit on by hot topics spawn of dorky 15 year olds in oversized $70 bondange pants and unclever quote shirts.
and as for fuck you, i think he makes a pretty valid point. times have changed since the hardcore days. punks seem to be alot more accepted and as a result theres a lot of rich kids getting dropped off at casualties shows by their moms.
at some point the term punk was stretched to thin and completly absorbed into the mainstream. but because of it becoming so watered down it has ceased to be known as punk in the mainstream. so i think now the people that stuck to punk are as punk as ever because all the kids that wore the sum 41 tee shirts have moved onto something else and punk has been forgotten about by the mainstream. So through its death in the mainstream its been purified, i don't know anyone who participates in punk subculture that i could honestly call a poser. yes punk is dead if your living in the mainstream, but to me its still alive and strong, and new punk bands are there, and they are good too, just as much so as those in the seventies and eighty's scenes, they are just not heard about.
exactly
No i didnt die and yes your still all fucking retarded its not that complicated no mainstream ''punk'' bullshit isnt gone yes punk is still accepted and seen as a phase by most people and thats a fucking problem now some of you shitheads think punk is just about the ideals wrong its the fuck you violent irrevent attitude that defines a punk without that punks are just funny looking hippies and worse some fuckers think its only about the music no the musics shitty thats kinda the point im gonna make it simple PUNK IS ABOUT ATTITUDE get that through your thick skull and to anyone who says theyre punk who works at hot topic fuck you your bastard shop has helped steal our scene from the street and sell it to the suburbs in a cute little package you bastards need to put the piss back into punk when the mall punks say cool dead kennedys shirt say fuck you ya little sellout piece of shit scare those bastards out of scene purge the scene of the undedicated show the world that punk isnt dead and that its still willing to create panic and destruction stop talking about being punk and start showing it as always fuck you
haha, your glorifying the life on the streets yet you use a computer to bitch at whatever injusctices are being to to punks gilded image on the computer, your sticking up for punks on the streets my making sure everyone hates em as soon as they catch wind of your bullshit, all the while simultaniously safeguarding it from any misinformation that may be written about it by a bunch of goofy looking hippies on the internet. man you should be a superhero, your punkrocks messiah, your gonna be the one to topple the massive corperate system, arnt you? your gonna do all that from your quaint streetside pathway, where you kill cops and burn flags and spit in little old ladies who give you a weird looks groccery bag, your my hero.

p.s. i am just a goofy looking hippy, and you are one too, your just on your period
I had to get back in touch with reality i realized once again what it means to truly live in the heart of the punk scene. I mean getting harassed by pigs getting wasted drunken brawls its fuckin great. Loud mouth politics so some you fuckers think your punk try standing on the corner burning an american flag. Its all fun till fuckers try and run you over no joke happened twice fuckin epic. Gotta come up with some good shit for the 4th. Fuck pigs police brutality is real bashing punks for no fucking reason. Stopping me following me trying to search and arrest me fuck them. Kill crooked cops!!! So maybe some fuckers here dont think i know what punk is well till you fuckers live in the streets where punk was born dont even act like you can understand the meaning of the scene. Oh and fuck anyone who complains their city doesnt have a punk scene. Come on build your own scene fucking christ. I love our shitty house, park, warehouse, desert, wherever shows fuck the venues play in the fucking street if you have to. Shit you guys are worse than pheonix kids.
i live in the bible belt and enjoy disturbing them with my music lol there are a handful of bands in my area and i help coordinate shows with them and my band. its true, out here you really have to dig the well to be able to spread that sort of message.

i don't live on the street and i dont write songs about how great it is to be a "punk" or anything about the "punk" lifestyle. I'm more into promoting political and social awareness and sharing what i have learned with people through my songs. I believe that while punk is against the grain its not necessarily about being destitute and accepting a label but reaching a better understanding of what life really is rather than what sedates the masses on their television screens.

I enjoy being an observer on the fringes of this society, because sometimes its easier to see what is going on through a third person point of view rather than just learning inside of it all the time.

When it comes to the "scene" i really don't give a fuck. all of us have this mentality that as long as we stay true to ourselves and our message then other people who can relate to it will follow and fuck everyone else and the pop music industry they so happily buy into.
