Because they feel like it reflects on them. When I first got my hawk my dad said, "great, now i'm the father of the kid with the mohawk". They really couldn't care what you do, they only care about how they look. It's hard to find parents who really care about their kids and the ones who do don't care about how their kids look, it's how there kids act.
Think about it like this, if you lived in another state, would they still care. If you called and said "I got a mohawk" would they flip. No.
thats how my dad used to be, he was embarresed to go out with me and ashamed of what people thought of him becuase of me but hes changed now. both my parents are proud of me for being myself..even if they do think i look a little ridiculous from time to time haha.

yeah all my parents want is for me to be happy now and later in life. i think the only reason they care about the tattoos and piercings is that they might affect my chances at a job or something later in life. as long as im doing well in college they couldnt care less about what i do to my body.
my mum cares about my choices because of she cares about me of course. she loves me and i love her. she doesn't like my mohawk but she'd never dream of having a go at me because of it. even when i got my first one two years ago, when i was about 15 and i lived with her, she didn't really mind. she was a bit shocked, and thought i looked daft, but she just went along with it. now i'm 17 and i've moved out so it doesn't really matter anymore. i sometimes get a bit sad that my mum thinks i look bad, but i know she respects and likes the person that i am, so nevermind. thats the most important thing.
people need to give their parents a break, they're only looking out for you! and shit LenaBean, i wish someone would pay for my hair dye :(
