I've had my share of "FAGGOT!!!"s and "YER GAY!!!"s tossed at me, but I'm never sure if it's because I'm a chick with a mohawk, they see me holding hands with my dude and think I'm a dude as well (in whichcase, they need to think of a more creative insult), or if it's just because I'm funny-looking in general. Next time, I should ask them to clarify.
But then, in small towns like the one I live in, just about anything can make you supposedly a dyke. Short hair? Dyke. Funny clothes? Dyke. Doc Martens? Dyke. Sneezed in public? Dyke.
Anyway, someone thinking you're gay because of your hair should be one of those things that sets off your asshole radar.
yea, im from a small town to,
and i know exactly what you mean.
and the sadest part is not because
they point and name,
but because they cant
come up with anything better
then a reference to homo's.
yeah, I got rid of my mohawk the first time because of that. now I learned that what people think doesn't matter
I think I look more feminine with a mohawk than without.

Fuck whoever says gay and whatnot. They're just jealous (I get it a lot, but mostly cause I get girls hitting on me).
I went to school in a town like Pez described...and when I shaved my head, WHOA BUDDY.
Amen. Why would it matter if you're gay, ya know? That doesn't mean every other gay girl out there sports a hawk or short hair cut. Many have long hair, actually. It just means your balls are bigger than the person who is questioning you or making a big deal out of it.

I like to play it up sometimes....it makes people really antsy. haha. And its even more funny when my boyfriend does it to! He gets hit on by just as many guys as he does girls (I swear, I work with him and watch it).

I also hate hearing "But you're so pretty though..." or "At least you have a pretty face and great personality" Fuck 'em.
ive been debating about getting a hawk and when i put up my normal hair just to test out the waters, and see how people reacted, some of my guy friends kept telling me "youre so pretty with your normal hair". i thought it looked awesome (although it was a bit way to long for my liking, and i didnt know exactly what i was doing so the front started falling halfway through the night). i think girls with mohawks look so strong and ultra feminine
I've noticed all the guys who say things like "you're so pretty with your normal *or long* hair" tend to be .... well. Iffy? Where I live and work, they are assholes.
But if they are really good friends of yours, instead of acquaintances, that would be another story.

I would just go for it, haha. I mean if you can't get used to it or it doesn't grow on you, you can always cut your hair into a cute pixie cute (if you like short hair) or if it's long you can wear it down or in a pony tail or other creative do's until it grows in a bit more for your liking.

But...it is quite liberating!!! Let us know if you do decide to do it, and definitely share pics! Women with mohawks are beautiful. =]
i think im going to keep my hair long underneath for the time being, and cut layers so it will be fairly normal looking down, but dye the part im going to put up neon green (im a big fan of colors) i want to cut the sides, but ive never had short hair, so that will take some time to decide on. and i havent figured out how to make a fan shape either so ive been sticking to liberty spikes (thoses got an awesome reaction today from people around campus). i love your mohawk btw ^.^
Thanks! Hey, good luck with the coloring and everything. I went from long hair (well, long to me, it was touching my shoulders, to no hair basically).

Fanning is an art, there are some videos, but I would recommend clean dry hair, hairdryer, a strong hairspray - i honestly use just aquanet, and a comb. If you do it in sections it's easier.
I comb my hair, pull a full section up, spray the roots first and some of the hair over it, hold it taut, and dry it. Then I finish the section with spray and repeat all the way through. Overlapping enough to keep it consistent. When I'm done, I usually pull a flat iron over the ends to straighten them out and make it look more even.

My boyfriend taught me the coolest trick though. I used to start front to back, but my hair always split in the middle of the fan, so he told me to put the middle part up first and then follow through with the rest. Even when it was super long, it worked really nicely and hardly split after that. =]

So, maybe this will help? Just remember to have lots of time. It gets easier and quicker to do as you get more practice.
thanks! i will have to try that!
if i have my head shaved im a dyke, if i have a mowhawk im a dyke, unless im a plastic fantastic, with long hair, with long nails , short skirt, bare skin no tatts ect im a friggin dyke!!!!
ok i would rather be called a dyke than look like every other clone, or a plastic barbiedoll .
my hair, or lack of and tatts and dress make me who i am to a point its my expression to this world.
i have nothing against any gay man or women love is what we make it what finds us no matter what form its in, i myself am hetro , married with 5 kids, all of whom people see me with and what a surprise i still get "dyke, lez, lowlife ect".
sometimes you cant win, most times people who say these things have no life, no balls and no intelligence.
and lack the confidence to go ahead and be who they actually want to be.
ok winged enough,lol take care.
well put darkgothicdiva!
