Would anyone cut off their hawk for a girl or a guy? (Everyone's input would be appreciated)

Just wondering what you would do because earlier, me and my so called "best friend" were in a bar helping a few friends with a show(i filled in on guitar for them and he tagged along)and he started telling me all this shit about how i need to cut off my hawk and grow my hair shaggy like that little bitch zac efron. I got pissed!! Im like,"Why the fuck should I?? Look like every other abercrombie clone that walks around with their head up there ass??" He starts listing all like things wrong with punk and metal stuff and sayin its not cool with girls and he's startin to get embarressed of me. I say "what ever! You still aren't popular, even after you changed your look" He says its cause he's hangs with me so he "suffers by association". I say"do me a favor and go back and tell all those hollister bitches to go fuck themselves!!!Fuck you! Fuck them!! fuck everyone that trys to change me into that shit!!!" Then he says I should just get rid of the hawk at least. I could still dress in my metal bands t shirts and stuff but the mohawk has to go. I just said "Go fuck yourself". I got up and grabbed someones beer and smashed the glass into his chest to ruin his $150 hollister shirt, and left.
Now I've been thinkin maybe he's right? Maybe I should shave the mohawk and grow it out? Half of me says I should and it'll really actually be better, but the other half of me says I shouldn't because it wont matter, most of the chicks would still judge me 50 feet away. What should I do??? I used to have long wavy hair all the way down my back and I think that might have been more popular than the hawk. I'm starting to kinda miss it. I don't know what to do? I'm still kinda in shock i guess and stewing from earlier.

It was just a surprise because we've been friends probably about 14-15 years and we've been through other friends, cliques, shows,fights, played music together and all that. It used to be us against them pretty much. The guys with long hair, guitars and an Iron Maiden shirts against the preps with their head up their ass and bitch ass girls who wont even take the time to say "hi" before thinking you're scum. Then he changed into what we both hated so much and said "fuck em" every time someone was ignorant to the fact that we are down to earth people just because we look a certain way and that we got crazy and had some fuckin fun when we were jammin playin metal.

Comment by tofu on April 9, 2009 at 9:23am: one of my "friends" did that exact same thing last week. exactly the same. there were 5 of us chilling, and he was the only one with "normal" hair. like... i had a mohawk, my bro tyler has pretty long hair and micheal has this awesome, massive fro. and he started like, complaining about how being with us makes him look bad. and how having crazy hair makes girls just like whats differant about you, rather than your personality. i don't know how to explain it but he ended up making the argument that being an abercrombie wearing prick is the ONLY way to NOT conform.

Comment by Hex on April 9, 2009 at 10:13am: get yourself a new friend. the only times you should change your appearence are for court or for a new job that will pay quite well (and maybe for a family function like a wedding, but in that case only a toning down of your look.) i went to a tiny highschool in mississippi, wore all black and metal shirts..i wasn't cool or popular and inretrospect, i'd probably be even weirder if i had to do it all again. and even now at 30, i still don't fit in or look like anyone around here (except at work). so what? i'd rather not have many friends than friends that only accept me if i look like everyone else.
as far as chicks go.....well, it's been my experience the punker guys usually find some little pretty preppy girl who likes to punish her daddy by letting some punkrock boy punish her ass. keeping the mohawk will help attract these girlies. since you are also a musician, you shoudl also watch out for strippers...they tend to like metal/punk musicians.
for the most part it sounds like you and your friend have simply grown apart. start doing stuff with out him, going to shows the two of you wouldn't usually attend and see what else is out there. at the rate he's going, so concerned with the status quo and attracting chicks, he'll get sucked in by the first chick that talks to him, who will get herself knocked up asap, and he'll end up married to some fat annoying cow with a bunch of crotch droppings wonderin why you are still out going to shows and talking to lots of different chicks..... let him go enjoy that road alone.
