I'm not in a position to justify paying Supercuts £12.50 a week to run a strimmer over the sides of my head so having my resident hair expert go off to Uni has caused a dilemma (pesky kids).
Still reeling from people's reaction to me changing the colour to violet*, I decided to have a go at trying Deon's method (
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4kJw9HEQhg ) with an electric shaver. So I bought a cheap £6 ladyshave from Asda. Think it was cheap because it's pink. Can't find any difference between it & a male shaver other than the colour. It even has a little slide bit that would market on a bloke's shaver as a sideburn trimmer :)
Shaving the sides of my own head was a nightmare. Right side wasn't too bad, but shaving the left with my left hand while trying to see what I was doing using a shaving mirror was like patting your head & rubbing your stomach, only infinitely worse. Still need to finish some bits with a wet razor, but after an hour trying not to cut off the mohawk I've given up for the night.
It is do-able, but I expect it'll take a few weeks to get used to it. The one thing I do know is that I need a bigger hand-mirror.
*Colour seems to have a bigger effect on people's reactions than I'd thought. In the past I've had my hair neon-blue & got some serious attitude & offensive comments from people (generally sporting short back & sides & wearing ties). Strangely enough, when I have had it red I get nothing but a respectful attitude. Trying violet convinced me in one day to go back to red again because I encountered the same attitudes so I'm re-dying it tomorrow afternoon.
Then all I have to do is convince it to grow to a respectable height.
