a few people have asked me how i get/keep my hair such bright colors, so heres my instructions!

1)Bleach your hair to the lightest possible color you can. I usually go for a pale yellow if I can, but don’t leave it on too long, or eat will EAT your hair. Manic Panic’s Flash Lightening Kit is my favorite to use personally, but if your hair isn’t TOO dark, you can get away with using box kits for extra light blonde color :) When your rinse out the bleach, wash your hair once or twice but DO NOT CONDITION!!!!! Conditioner soaks into the hair strand, leaving no room for the dye.
2)COMPLETELY saturate your hair. The more the better!! To separate different strands off for other colors, I use foil or plastic wrap and if I’m keeping certain strands their current color, I soak them in conditioner to keep the dye off.
3)SHOWER CAPS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND!! I leave my dye on for HOURS (as long as I possibly can, usually overnight but at least 4-6) so shower caps help keep the dye off clothes/pillows and the heat from your scalp helps the dye soak in better.
4)BLOW DRY! Like I said, heat helps! It helps open up the hair cuticle, and the dye soak in deeper, so if you’re doing this during the day time, blow dry HIGH HEAT and LOW FORCE for 15 min every hour or so. This step isn’t necessary, but it helps :)
5)Let your hair cool. For the last hour or so of your dying time, leave your hair alone so the cuticle has time to close up and trap the color in.
**Since Manic Panic and all other unnatural hair dyes are strictly adding pigment to your hair, not chemically changing it, the dye is actually only sticking to the top layer of the hair, not actually changing the color…that’s why it fades so quickly!! This means you have to take extra steps to keep your colors fresh and bright!**
RINSING
6)When you’re ready to rinse out your dye, make about 2 cups of a 50/50 vinegar and COLD water solution. [[sounds crazy I know]] BEFORE your rinse the dye with water, pour this carefully over your hair (don’t get it in your eyes!) and let it soak for about a minute. It sounds weird, but the dye on your head is alkaline, and the acid in the vinegar pre-rise helps get your hair back closer to its natural pH, therefore keeping it brighter, longer :)

**TIP FOR PRE-RINSE-->When applying my vinegar pre-rinse i usually try to lean backwards over my tub, tilt my head back over the edge, THEN pour carefully back over my hair. This keeps it away from your face and out of your eyes [[can be done standing in the shower also, just tilt your head back as far as you comfortably can]]**
7)Rinse with COLD water! Get used to cold showers, cause its necessary for keeping your color BRGHT :) Hot water re-opens the hair cuticle, and lets the color out. So only use cold water on your hair from now on!
8)NO NEED TO WASH! Don’t shampoo your hair for at least a day after you dye, but conditioner is ok.
9)To keep it bright and minimize roots, take a specific bottle of conditioner (any kind will do) and mix about ¼ cup or dye in with it, and use it once or twice a week, keeping it on for about 15-20 minutes to refresh and fading :)
10)Your hair will rinse color whenever your shampoo it, but conditioning with said conditioner should keep it from making a drastic difference.
I hope this helps!! If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me :)

p.s. if your get any dye on your face/neck/ears, hand sanitizer works WONDERS to help get it off :)

OH! i forgot one tip...
Once your roots get long/dark enough for the conditioner to not cover them, buying the root touch-up kits in super light blonde are WONDERFUL! just use the kit to rebleach your roots, then re-dye, rather than completely bleaching your whole head again :)

Just a tip you can also add dye to the shampoo, it's called a soap cap, i learned this trick in cosmetology school, it works wonders.
