My hubby said it looked like crap...
I couldn't get it to fan well. And it kept trying to fall. And I could NOT get the back to stand up.
Too much product? Not enough?

SOOOOO much better than my first attempt. Mine did not stand at all. Congrats and the tatt looks great too.

Its hard to tell, but you may try less product, especially if it is hairspray. Another nifty trick is to pull very hard and straight when spraying it and blow drying.

Finally, get your husband involved. The back and middle back are the trickiest. My hawks always look best when Kam helps out with that part. Don't be afraid to lay down, comb it out, some and then spray it again and blow dry it. This is why lighter application of spray helps in the beginning.

Definitely get your husband to help, the two person hawk is always better. I think it is a lot easier to put it up when Giant Mohawk Man lays down and I can use a brush to fan it out evenly. Not bad at all for a first attempt, I can't imagine how hard it would be to but it up with out any help.

Looks to me like too much product, or one with too high a water content. I say try the liberty hawk it's a lot easier and quicker than a full fan.

your mohawk is about as tall as mine. idk if it is the moisture in your hair or the product or the technique u use.

dry thin [fried] hair usually goes up easier
got2be hair glue + got2be hairspray + hairdryer = awesome

try pulling hair straight up [or whichever way], spray base and up 2", then blowdry the fuck out of it. just hold hairdryer there, let heat do its work.

felix, you use the glue too? that makes my hair all clumpy and it doesnt fan well. but when i dont have someone to help me put it up, i shape the front by putting my head between my legs and scultping it with the glue. then, for the back i put my feet in the tub and lay on my back on the toilet seat and do the same thing. glue, spray, blowdry. but if i have help, i just use spray n blowdry.

I just use hairspray blow dryer and a straightening iron works great

Thanks for the comments and help, everybody!
I've decided that I'm gonna go shorter. Sunday I'll be getting it clipped shorter.
That way it'll be easier to put up and I'll be able to get more experience. That way when it does grow back out to this length, I'll be totally ready to handle it. ;)

i do my entire mohawk upside down it is thick and long (now not in my pic though) so it just falls while drying when done straight up maybe helpful to do it upside down and got 2 b rocks

You can try teasing it if you don't want to put TONS of spray in it, but you'll loose some length.
I use a root boots before i start, then a flexible hold spray to help my roots, then I use got2be blasting freeze spray and a blow dryer on the maximum heat possible. And to get to to fan evenly I use a flat brush after I get it up, then I coat it in hairspray again. Doing this all upside down would also be helpful.
