i use hairspray and i leave mine up all week then wash it out saturday and then do it sunday and leave it (i sleep on my side) i get a lot of people asking how i leave it up all week
mines 9 inches tall and i use got 2 be glued hairspray and nothing else but if there is a gap brush through the gap and connect it and spray and dry to get it perfect
hey everyone, just joined the site. when i had my hawk(going to get another one this week) i used either KNOX gelatin, which isn't too good for yer hair or this stuff called Xtah Bondage by Sebastian. the knox way may seem gross but my hawk lasted about 1 1/2 months with it :D the xtah bondage has egg whites which also help keep yer hair up for a good while
for me the best thing i use is tresamay frezz hold cos i caint find any othe gud stuff over hear in the uk..nd dvd case's to have a proper thin one cos wen your out head banning all nite it stays up longer espesh wen its long the short ones just stay up for ever ...
i like to use gel spray v05 mega hold....lasts ages ,but there's a danger of breakage....so watch out, I use a hairdryer to spike it up and have a nifty brush attachment for it ,for a very smooth fan....my hair is naturally afro (at the roots) which i think makes it easier to get standing ,when its short i just let it go Mr T lol
ok look it doesnt depend on the hairspray, any will do, what you need to do is straighten it first.. this removes any grease/dirt.. then what ya need to do is backcomb it. once you get the hang of backcombing it will stand up without and hairspray whatsoever....
how to backcomb: turn your head upsidedown so the top is pointing down. it shud b fluffy from straightening. grab a chunk and pull it so it wud b like wen its spiked. then about an inch from the roots, comb it back down while holding it in place. then move to the next bit bout 3 inches from roots and comb back to were you started. once you get the hang of it itll onli take like 10 mins to spike up a 6 inche mowie.... my mate spikes up his footlong spikes like dis and he can get em standing wivout even spraying!!! if you backcomb it proper itll look like a mowie wiv no hairspray but itll be all fluffy so then spray it and pull the mowie up wiv de palms of your hands just like you were spikin it up wiv gel or somtin... i can do mine wiv no hairdryer!!!! easy as fuck.... itll stay standin for days too just touch it up every mornin... to get it out u just need to comb it out.... if you try and wash it out after backcombing it wont work!!!!
So, i like to use got 2 b glue, but i noticed it gets all clumpy and i can't comb thru. besides hair spray, is there another product that i can use that i can comb through and wont clump as much? I hate using hairspray alone...takes fer ages.
hey, i tried to backcomb it but it kind of flopped over... i was out of hairspray but i used gel and mousee and a blow dryer, which made sort of a sticky mess out of my hair... any suggestions of how to get it to stay? my hairs probably about 14 inches when i pull it up straight. ..
My hawk is about 7", i've used Knox and it flaked SO bad. Usually i just use got 2 be glue and freeze spray, and blow dry the hell out of it.
i tried Ice spiker glue too and it worked well its just hella expensive.
i just hold it up with a comb in sections, hairspray at the roots and abit higher with Tressemme freeze hold hairspray (works wonders, shame it isnt water proof) hairdry the fuck out of it, spray the tips and slid your hands up it and hold and hairdry some more, and so on and so forth and ta-da
you have an erect mohican.
jolly good stuff ole chap.
aqua net and got2be glued freeze spray r my faves to far my fan is about 8'' and people i know have much toller ones and use the same thing it should work well the main prob for most people is not blow drying long enough
elmers glue and water mix it into a paste. apply then blow dry. its semi-water proof depending on how long you've had it in. if no body fucks with it and you don't fuck it up it'll stay up for weeks, tho be warned it look like you've got the worst dandruff alive when it starts to flake off.
I have a bowl of it in my fridge. I nuke it a bit, dip my fingers in, rub my hands, and carefully apply it to the entire hawk. I don't like globbing it on mostly cause it can drip when it isn't dry and that hurts if it's caught on something else.
When I'm done, I blow dry it - high heat, low blast (dunno what else to call it - so it's not full force blowing). Otherwise you can still screw it all up if it isn't dry. haha
I think I have a decent shot of it on my profile. When my hair is all blonde - not the black tipped one. I didn't use a lot. Just enough to ensure that it would be fairly protected.
What i do is i grab it with my hand and section by section i spray the base with RAVE 4x and go all the way around, then i do the top half (blowdry all of this of course as you go along). Lastly when its all up and fanned the way i want it(good lol) i spray all of it back and forth on each side then blowdry it for GREAT reinforcement.
i promise you this shit will kick hurricane winds in the balls!!! (if u do it right and if you have enough spray to reinforce it :P)
hmm, what i do is flat iron all of my hair, seperate my bangs with a rat tail comb, clip them out of the way then i get like a little bit less than a bouncy balls size of got2b glued spike glue, then i put my head between my knees and work it all through the top half, sometimes i'll use a fine tooth comb to make it look, idk better, then i stand up real quick and i spray the roots with spray and play harder by big sexy hair, then i blow dry it, then i get some more spiking glue in my hand, upside down i put up and do my best to connect the back half with the top half, it looks better if you do the back half first, but i seldom do the back half first, then after i half that up i make sure it's in good proportion by moving sections backwards or forwards and spraying it with spray and play harder, blow dry then cover with a small coat of ice blast spray adhesive, it's insanely hardcore, then i blow dry again, then i cover all of it with a thin layer of got2b rubbercement, then blow dry again, then sometimes i'll flatiron the very front so it looks really straight, then i spray with ice spray adhesive again, then blow dry, it takes me about 25 to 30 minutes, and it's hard as a fucking rock, be careful about how close you hold the ice hairspray though, it will make your hair look fuckin white, and if you do spray it to close, make sure you rub it in as best you can, then spray from a distance with a water mist sprayer, then rub it in a little bit and blow dry, and it will withstand rain or wind or volcaic heat, i speak from experience with all 3!!!
hey i dont want 2 sound like an asshole
(april fools i dont really kare)
ok well i jst wantd 2 state my opinion that ppl with mohawks shorter then 4 inches or that hav methods that leave excessive gaps shouldnt b giving advice or @tleast state your length and the cons of ur tips
when i had a small hawk all i needed 2 spike it was mexican hair gel called punky junky but now i use a got2b glued
i tried the gelatine thing but aint used 2 it
i only use my method 4 libs i hav terrible fans
when ure hair is getin far to long either cut it down abit or do as the '70s punx did; use wallpaper glue that is not waterprof, takes a fucking long time to wash out but if u use waterproof wallpaper glue it never going to wash out, u have to use an Angle grinder and shave it of
i use g2b freeze spray and glue, a paddle brush and a hair dryer. first i get the brush and hold up the front of my hair and spray it with the freeze spray and blow dry it and then i do this all the way round at first only sprayin one side and the once its up i spray the whole of the other side and put the hair dryer on low but full heat and dry the other side i then add g2b glued to the tips blow dry it on low setting and then add a thin layer of freeze spray over and its done :D
im a newly mohawked person and i heard from som friends that you can use carperters glue to spike a mohawk i just wanted to ask somone who knows what to do
fuck, I ussually use got2b glued, but recently I've started using got2b unstopable, it's a putty (that means you realy have to work it in good, or else it'll clump horribly) that's water and sweat proof until you want to wash it out. It works out well in the humidity too! but when applying either I'll do one of two methods, depending on what I'm going for.
Fan Mohawk
1. apply glue or putty to all the hair you want to stand up(works well if you get it from the scalp up)
2. get out a blow dryer and a comb (fine tooth for sraight fan, and wide for chunky fan)
3. comb it up as you blow dry it, don't be afraid to use your hands to hold freshly combed sections up as they dry
Liberty Spikes
1. get out hairstyling bands and band your hawk into sections that will eventually be your spikes
2. work your glue or putty into the root, deeply as you can, as you are providing a foundation for your spikes, then pull the glue up to the tip of the individual locks.
3. get out the hair dryer and set it on it's highest settings (don't pussy out and put it on medium unless you have an hour or so to do your hair)
4. pull the bands out and start puling your spikes upward with one hand, and drying with the other. (it also helps to twist the tips of your spikes, so the hair interlocks and holds better)
5.hair spray that shit, to put a shelac like coat of armor on it, (it helps with keeping the "can I touch it?" people, from fucking up your do)
and hot damn! that's one bitchin' mohawk you have
p.s. If you can't get hair glue, just use elmers school glue,
it works the same way.
ok my mohawk is 18 inches ill post pics tonight i usually put it up in liberty spikes but i want a fan iv tried g2b glued freeze spay but it doesnt work for my fan =/ any sugestions
I find that got2b is too strong to style a fan hawk by itself. I have a method I hope can help someone.
First make sure you have no knots in your hair. Then back-comb your hair (grab a piece of hair and comb from the top down to the base of the hair) Do this all over the hair. Try not to push down to hard or it all gathers in one clump. Then spray it lightly with a cheap hairspray (I use 'Tressemme: Instant freeze). Don't let the hairspray harden yet. Lean to the floor and with your hands pull your hair in the desired direction, just enough to get the basic shape. Then spray it a bit more and get it a bit more into shape. Keep repeating until you have the shape you want. The advantage of using a cheap hairspray is that you can comb through the hair even when it's sprayed. This allows any gaps and splits to be sealed. Now you have great hair, but it isn't going to stand up for long. Once it is perfect, spray the whole thing with got2b freeze spray (not to much or it will be impossible to comb through and it will hurt when people decide to pass by you and run their fingers through your hair). Blow dry the got2b to make it 'lock' the style in place.
In my experience this method can keep it in place for up to 3 days (as long as you deprive yourself of a pillow). Every morning, you will have to rectify a bit of you hair, but just spray it with a bit of got2b and hold it in the desired place whilst blow-drying.
On the third or fourth day of having your hair up, it will still be standing up, but it will be to out of shape to fix with a bit of hairspray. Since I don't have that much money I can't afford to keep styling it every three days of so. What I do is make use of my hair that is still pointing upwards. I separate the hair into five sections with rubber bands, grab a section with my hand and turn it into a spike. Then spray it with got2b and blow dry it. I recommend making no less then four (it will look silly) and no more then seven spikes (to thin and hard to keep up). Repeat for each spike and you now have liberty spikes (they stay in place around 3 days with a bit of maintaining). It takes me two thirds of a bottle of got2b and half a bottle of Tresemme to keep my hawk/spikes in place for nearly a whole week.
Hope this helped someone!
i'm at a farm college nd my tutor sed boot some stuff they use on cows called clear magic, apparently ur gonna need wd40 ta get rid of it!!! will post pics wen i get sum.
i used to use knox gelatin, itll stay up for bout three or four days, just mix with hot water (less water is better) get a paintbrush, glob it a lil on the base of the haw and blowdry that so u can work up from that. then Starting at the back glob that shiit in ur hands and pull/slick up a portion , hold in place and blow dryer that shit. doing it in a process is will make it come out looking tits as opposesd to glopping ur whole dome in knox or woodglue n it looking like SHIT. buutt BEWARE, ur hair will fall out in clumps wen u shower! for a fan divide the hawk in half and tease each side seperate starting from the bak ( ALWAYS START FROM THE BACK >o<) then teas then together, lightly comb in the loose hairs. Get got2b hairspray or CHI rockhead hairspray (aerosol only) pull Straight up and flash spray the grasped part till it just soaked enough and blowdry it wile pulling as hard as you can on ur hawk... blahblah it takes time.. i been lazy lately ;p any one know how to make a good devilhawk?
try l'oreal studio indestructible extreme glue not sure how it will work on long hair but works well on medium to short lasts about a week you can just make it wet and restyle your hair down side it can drag the dye out of your hair .......

If I'm worried about being water proof, I throw a thin layer of knox into my hair after I finish it.
