I'm guessing but I might be the oldest headbanger here :) old enough to have seen most good and a few bad metal bands starting out , who can forget the influx of NWOBHM in the early eighties , now to kick things off what was the first metal album you ever paid for with your own hard earned cash ? mine was lonesome crow by the scorpions , my first heavy album I stole was by earth ( later known as black sabbath )

..Dimmu Borgir's Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. I have all their albums but that is the one that has some good melodies and riffs.

I am still new to metal and want to study it for a project of mine, and am trying to compile a list of metal bands to draw influence from.

I was pointed towards DevilDriver, Crisis, Pantera , Glassjaw, Walls of Jericho- but what others and which albums should I start with? I prefer bands that have a sort power about them so a driving guitar and drum beat that are in harmony with the voice are really important to me. If it's any help I've listened to Kittie, Nightwish, DevilDriver (what was on their myspace), Turisas, Otep, Straight Line Stitch, and Crisis (Karyn Crisis).

They are talented, Dargon force...but you are right, a bit cheezy their songs are. I liked the song Journey home..I believe thats the name...but the video was....strange. I also like bands that fuse metal with orchestra or synth-orchestras. Like Dream Theater, Epica, Kamelot, Lacuna Coil, Moonspell..etc
It all makes it dramatic.....(P.S) Tomorrow is my b-day 6/20!!

I just went to Five Finger Dick Punch, Shadows Fall, And Otep and it was an awesome ass show. I like five finger, but they are not motograter. Otep, well i luv them a lot, i even shaved the letters into both sides of my head. The mosh was amazing and i owned that fucker. Percings pulled, people knocked out, i got handcuffed. In all it was a great night.

Dude I saw 5FDP in concert a couple of months ago and they kicked some major ass. Otep was there as well but they weren't that good. I mean I love their music but I think they are better on the radio. 2cents and Shadows fall were also there and they were phenomenal, not quite as good as five finger though

i saw 5FDP with Otep and shadows fall In Omaha, Nebraska, and i went in and moshed during 1 5FDPsong. I ended up falling straight onto me elbow, which made it look like i had two elbows, for about a month. Wiked Sweet

Oh fuck yes for the Slayer/Testament/Megadeth tour. I'm extremely elated that Tom Araya's back surgery went well and the tour was simply rescheduled. Nice to see Slayer on a lineup with thrash metal stalwarts where they belong instead of some of the prior lineups that I can't even fathom how they came into existence. The '07 tour with Bleeding Through and Marilyn Manson still mindfucks me to this day.

This month I'm seeing Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Cannibal Corpse, Dying Fetus, Devourment, and a shitload of other bands that I am too intoxicated to remember.

This summer I saw Cannibal Corpse and Paradise Lost. Was awesome but we are not too many people in Malta :(

Decrepit birth and Deeds of Flesh are both awesome. I despise Suffocation. I'm sorry but I can't stand the way the vocals sound. They were supposed to play the time I went to see dying fetus. They didn't play for whatever reason and I was super happy.

They knew you hated them and they didn't want to upset you. That is why they didn't play when you were there.

Haha, nice. They actually have Derek Boyer who was Decrepit Birth's bassist for '...And Time Begins' so they spent alot of time touring together which was great for me. Been on a kick of most of the Unique Leader and Willowtip bands lately...what about Vile and Hour of Penance?
