I use a few old vintage machines from the late 50's to early 60's. The ones from those time eras can sew through leather easily if you hand guide the material. thrift stores often have some good ones.
I got an old singer handed down to me from my mom, which was handed down to her from her mom... I'm not liking this pattern
Mine was given to me from my grandmother. She takes care of elderly people that still want to live on their own. When her patient passed I inherited her Singer.
I love it. It is 50 years old and runs beautifully. The woman who had it that passed took excellent care of it. Ive been practicing on altering clothes (I lost some weight and some of my favorite things are a little bit big now) and plan to make my prom dress this year.
If you are looking for one, my advice is to go thrift store shopping. I have not had any trouble with mine, it sews through everything.
