studs and shit are pretty cheap if you look right. studsandspikes.com offers like a hundred i think for like 15 bucks

I can't afford studs either. I rammed holes through beer caps and sewed them on like buttons to my vest. They look cool, but the floss is giving out now and they're falling off.

or buy a cheap belt and take the studs off, its like a two in one deal 

i use lighter tabs though too, not many people do wear i live so its a bit original xP
