Mohawks Rock

I have done the gelled type of mohawk before for a while but stopped doing it cause of my school. But I am going to do another one since I am graduating soon. I have always wanted to know how to do it like the picture below but I could never figure it out.

Any help/ideas would be very helpful.

I've never done this type of mohawk, but I figure a person might utilize light glue instead of just straight gel.
I did this, what happened was I had put up my hawk with freeze spray and I have a nervous habit of running my fingers through my hair and so it held up but it wasn't hard anymore. I like them both so I might do the soft one again some time.
backcombing might be it?
and hairspray
Thank you for the ideas. I will be trying to get it too work soon as my hair gets a little longer.
hairspray and backcombing.

Might try this as i am trying to find a new way to have mine done.... although i still have hair of the sides dont know how it will look till i try it
this definitely looks like just hairspray and backcombing for sure.
i use only hairspray for my hawk and thats what it'd look like if i didnt put enough in...
i do my hair like this a lot.. especially when i'm in a hurry...takes about 2 minutes. I just start at the front backcombing and keep adding sections until i reach the back. then i go back through and make sure there are no stray pieces or anywhere that might fall out and back comb those in. If your hair is somewhat shorter (like 4" or less) that's usually all you need to do...if it's a little longer then you might want to add a light dusting of hairspray, mostly just to keep the tips straight so they dont flop over too much. Also this style is easy to do if your hair is dirty or you havent washed it that day..it stays together a little better.
