How do you find the bands you like?

I was just wondering, because I find my music by going on youtube and just clicking on a bunch of random bands. Or I go to google to look at band lists in certain genre's. Anyone else do this? If not how do you find music?

sometimes i'll find a song i like on youtube and then look at comments about other bands that are similar. Or i'll go to purevolume.com and look in a certain genre or on myspace i look at the bands friend's list. Sometimes i see who is in the band and then find their side projects.

Used to find all my bands through Profane existence, and their site is still a good reference source even if the zine is out of print. There's an ass ton of punk blogs I follow where people post EP's and old 7", it''s a good way to get names and ideas of bands. The internet has become the best resource for , music ever. Otherwise, there's a record store in Madison I go to to pick my shit up. Guys there have good recommendations.

Profane Existance is awesome for that in their reviews since they'll relate a band they're reviewing by to several others with those band names in bold, so if you like one mentioned you'll have a high chance of being into the others listed

I do several of the above, but another one that I didn't see is looking at a band's webpage if they have one and they usually have links for other bands that they like/support/have toured with.

I have found a load of great bands recently by going through a bands record label. Smaller record labels, like Holy Roar have samplers which they put out for free and also tend to sign similiar bands. Most magazines suck, but I find Rock Sounds review section reliable.

good ol anarcho-punk.net has a ton of underground punk bands that you mostly can't buy their shit b/c it's not being distributed anymore. also there are a lot of great blogs that upload heaps of great punk/meta/crust/ska whatever the hell you're into. sometimes i've found awesome bands by just typing in one i like to google, and adding blogspot to it. not to condone stealing music btw - when i find a band i love, i buy their music as much as i can afford to. going to shows and getting it there etc. cheers
