Mohawks Rock

For the past few years I've been sporting a crew cut, and I've decided I want something with a little more character. I then settled on a mohawk, but the kind I want is a very specific style. I've attached a photo of more or less the kind of style I want, and I have a couple of questions that maybe you guys can answer. First off, I have thick frizzy hair, and I'm wondering if my type of hair might make getting the mohawk impossible. Also, about how many months of hair's growth should I wait out to be able to get a style like the one in the photo? And lastly, are hair salons a good place to get this kind of hair cut done? I know that sounds lame, but I don't trust myself do this kind of thing. Thanks.

Yes, go ahead and get a mohawk even with your hair condition. Thick hair is alright and you can neutralize the frizzyness. But I've seen mohawks that are curly and still interesting. Probably most difficult for your hair would be a tallish fanned mohawk, but it's not want you prefer anyway.

Afterall, being unique is one of the pluses of a having a mohawk. You can see the variety of styles on MR.

You might also consider either a buzz hawk, which would be similar to your crew cut, but shaven on the sides and short on top and back. Or perhaps a "messy" fauhawk type, which is somewhat casual like the posted photo shot. A lot of people on the site seem to have had more than one style and changed colors.

Can't tell about growth time, maybe a few months. So do whatever you like and think is right for you.

I recomment a hair stylist for the first cut and styling, unless you have a friend who has cut someone's hair before. Getting the top even and straight lined is the main problem IMO. GH
GreyHawk, thank you for the help. Looks like I'm all set.
