That is a good question. Would picking your hair work?? I wouldn't use glue if your hair can/will stand on it's own (it is rather thick and gooey and can be hard to wash out, not to mention it can be damaging...like any product).
If not, I could see a flat iron working. But I could be dead wrong. I think you should play with it and see what you can get it to do! =]
I think we have some people on here with textured hair... hm.
Anyone have personal experience?
it stays straight when i flat iron it and then glue it...i have the spray hair glue, not the sticky rub in your hands kind
like i pick it out, put sunsilk straighten up conditioner in it, flat iron it, spray the glue on, then squeeze it together with the flat iron and it holds
the major problem i forsee is when it gets longer, is it still gonna hold like that, or is it just gonna look like i walked into a windmill and got pigeon shit on my hawk
this is what it looks like when i straighten it now (picture's attatched)
i saw this one black guy on deviantart that had this ridiculous (in a good way) hawk...hold on

Aww fuck I lost my reply.
His hair is amazing. Hands down. I can never make my hair lay like that haha.
I have a theory about how he does his hair. And a huge part of it are the micro cornrows he has in. When it's all braided up, I think he flat irons the pieces and arranges them. They might stay on their own, but if they don't looks like he might use hairspray to keep it together (the ends are too wispy to be held with glue, so thats why I'm putting my money on hairspray).
I dunno, I don't use a flat iron unless I'm correcting the very edge of my hawk or straightening my bangs..
But I've got thick curly hair and have found hairspray is wicked light and works wonders. Glue weighed my hair down and wrecked it when I was younger... plus the longer your hair is, the more glue you use in it - you know?
It looks like you might have to grow your hair out a little bit more before you can do that. Or get extensions. That would be fun!
Late reply and all, but I'm curious about how things went for you. I personally relax my hair and find that's the easiest bit for me, but if you want to go through and pick it, separate it as if you were about to braid, and then tie it off in sections to train it for a bit that may work out. You could also flat iron it, or go somewhere to just have it ironed and have them teach you how to train it in the proper positions.
The guy in the picture looks like he had his relaxed, braided, and then he molded it. I find that if you relax it and then let it grow out natural, it's way easier to stick up without product and still keep that smoother look.
