i have straightened my hair but i dont now.

my curly hair works to my benefit when i tease my hair and it tends to hold better
but thats from my experience
a male friend of mine suggests that straightening your hair makes it lighter though
Naturally straight hair.
I don't think it would matter, as soon as the moisture from hairspray/glue hits your hair it'll undo the straightening, kinda like someone who straightens their hair and it curls back up when they get stuck in the rain.

That's a very good point.  And one I will put to the test tonight after a shower.

My sis gave me a pair of her old hair straighteners in the summer and I tried them a couple times on the 'hawk with hairspray.  Both before drying and after drying, they caused it to be quite gappy and very thin.  I didn't really like the look - it's makes the fan very hard to split up and redo to iron out the gaps.

But I don't think I tried pre-straightening the hair before hairspraying.  My initial view is with Steve on this, but still worth testing out myself.

Well, tried straightening across my hair (rather than along the 'hawk-line) before hairspraying and it's actually turned out pretty fine and gapless.  In fact, although hard to judge, I think it was easier to put up evenly this time.
