Mohawks Rock

I cut my 'hawk recently and it came out all funky. I think I made the base to thin and it has more gaps than a tony hawk game. It's only about 2 inches currently, so gapping this much this early worries me. I want to grow it giant. So can someone help me out?

Pictures might help but, mine is about an inch and a half wide in the front and it goes about the same all the way back, if that helps any..
I'd post pics but i dont have a camera :/ my hair is also naturally curly so its a bitch to cut and spike, if i let it grow by itself, it'd be an affro.
Sorry for the bump guys, but i really need some help, anyone?
if its curly, straighten it before you spike it.
I think that in order to have enough hair to support itself, your hawk probably needs to be at least 1 1/2"-2" wide if you're wanting it to actually stay up.

as for the gaps, in order to get rid of my gaps (that i ALWAYS get after spiking it) i comb the gaps together and blowdry my hair with the comb or brush still in it.

The more rock solid you want it, the more time you're gonna have to spend on it. Thats the worst part in my opinion.

and like z said, pics would prolly help.
I wanted tips on the actual method of cutting the hair, i used the duct tape method and it didin't work for me. Yea, about 1 inch sounds right, my problem is that in the front, its about 1 inch, but in the back, its thinner, and i thoaught i cut evenly, but I guess not, i need help on preventing that from happening.
How well does this work with very long hair, in the range of 15-19 inches, I'm looking at getting my first hawk in a couple months
what everyone said
Thnx for the tips, I'll have my girlfriend do it, she wanted to anyways.
