CouchSurfing

For those of you who don't know what couchsurfing is, it's a website that connects travelers and hosts all around the world. It cuts the cost of travel by not paying for a hotel or hostel by being hosted by a local.

I've not yet had the money for the plane ticket but I plan on couchsurfing in the future.

Just lookin' to see if there are any fellow couchsurfers on here, or if any of you lovely punks were looking to travel, I'm a host!

You can verify your location and get references from friends so you base your decisions on good/bad references, verification, and their profile.

You have to go through a registration process. It's not just totally random; they try to make it the safest possible. Obviously occasionally you'll get a mean bastard but I guess if you never take risks you'll have a pretty boring life right?

I had a friend who traveled to all the lower 48 states in the last 4 months using this site to couch surf. He had pretty good luck overall. He said it was cool cause he got to meet all different kinds of people.

I considered joining (I actually might have) the site, but I find it better to just bridge bum it. Staying at someones house takes away my freedom drinking, staying up late and missing out on meeting other hitch hikers. Although, when I do meet a traveler that comes through the city I invite them stay at my place. Also, so far, every city I've been in has some sort of anarchist house that let's people crash, just depending on who you run into or who you know
