Mohawks Rock

Hi....I just came across this site through a forum on another site in my researching getting a girl mohawk...

I've had a chelsea cut (before they became overly popular), and a bald head (mom says thank the good Lord I have a cute face lol) and just about everything in between (my hair is uber curly so its been straightened, shirley temple curls, the works).

I haven't yet run it by my fiance....as he said he'd be ok with my hair being shorter than his (he saw pics of me from before we got together with my hair mad short and liked it) but I am not sure how he'd react to a mohawk...

I have always been a HUGE fan of the mohawk and as he is a super pansy on cutting one's hair drastically...and I find girls with mohawks super hot...I'm considering one! Any input would be greatly appreciate (I.E. If I have the face for it).

Glad to be here and hope someone can give some insight :)

(Im attaching former pics of super short hair...current hair type/color is on my profile pic)

I think its awesome that you are considering it and have found us. We will probably be more bias toward you doing so, but in finding other pictures there is an album on here for "Girls with Mohawks".

http://www.mohawksrock.com/photo/album/show?id=1501994%3AAlbum%3A2142

You can go to that URL or check out the album section after clicking on photos, to see them. As you can see lots of our members rock very hot mohawks on girls. I think its particularly interesting to kind of leave the sideburns type hair to give it a more feminine appeal, but you'll see lots of examples on here. I'm sure some of the girls will chime in on this as well.

Good luck with your decision and welcome to the Mohawks Rock community.
I think you would look great with a mohawk. But remember its all in the eye of the beholder. Myself as a male gets a lot of attention, just think of how the public would react to a girl having one. Obviously none of this should bother you but im just letting you know incase you didnt give it any thought.

Also, a lot of girls like to keep some hair towards the front on the sides, you can see examples in the album giant mohawk boy posted. Hair grows, have fun with it :)
Welp the stylist totally butchered my hair...this is what I ended up with

Needless to say I was pretty pissed to find out someone I have met a few times (acquaintance of a friend) has pretty much the style down that I was looking for (see below)

Oh well I'll just let it grow I guess :(
So you said you wanted a mohawk and the stylist cut it to short? Ive been down that road to many times not getting what i want. I go into detail about exactly what i what. No problems since.
Ya I thought I did...and it was FINE...then last minute she went SNIP SNIP SNIP and I was like ffffffffffffffffffffffffffff***********************CK! so I was like ok we are done. threw money at her and walked...I was soooo mad....! I brought in drawings and pictures LOL. I knew what I wanted and thought I brought enough of an idea of what I wanted for any moron to get it....Next time Im going to drop a bit more in a nicer place and bring more pictures, illustrations, and triple check to make sure they can do it, if they don't think they can do it I will go elsewhere.

The sides were WAAAY too long and the top too short. the very front is liek 3/4 the length of the rest of my hair. she completely disregarded what I said...
I would also find someone with the hair you like and find out who cuts their hair, or look for a salon with people with more wild hair. The money isn't always the difference. I went into a very expensive salon in New York City, and they had zero clue what to do with a mohawk haircut, and really tried to talk me into cutting it into something else.

I politely replied, "no, I like my mohawk, I'll do it myself" and walked. Which was good since my two friends had to drop $80 plus tip each on their cuts.

Another idea might be a beauty school. Here in Atlanta we have Aveda, and I've gotten very good cuts there especially for aspiring hair stylist, since they are always looking for models to cut their hair, and its rare to find someone willing to rock a different style like the one above.
oh trust me. the girl in the picture above had her hair cut by a friend. they went to beauty school together...if i was closer id totally have her friend cut my hair. THANKFULLY this young lady's boyfriend tends to DJ out here (which is how I met her thru a mutual friend) so I might have her bring some supplies cross country with her if she comes back this year :) I've seen some of the dye jobs shes done and cuts and shes pretty frickin kick ass...just finding someone in-state with that kind of talent sucks!

I myself am planning on going THRU beauty school SO I am going to be checking some out that are local and seeing if anyone has the talent to do what im looking for....since the particular cut im looking for can also be worn down essentially to downplay the shock factor of a mohawk to blend in with corporate america...and to keep from sending my father to an early grave :-P
I understand. I am going to talk to some people I know. The only person who I currently know that had a hawk would get it cut by a friend...she would shave his sides...i dont want the sides shaved I want it styled so I'm just going to have to do some mega research to get someone with enough experience to handle the job I am looking for :)
That's awesome. I'm not far off from my first Hawk my self.
Hope you like it, one you get it!
Ok so I did it! Again, stylist screwed up but at least she listened....in the back it was not as wide as on top and was completely crooked...so I shaved the back and am rocking a small hawk on just the top of my head. Any suggestions for product? Hairspray doesn't work on curly hair very much. Let me know what ya'll think of the pic I took..hopefully better ones to follow!

That sucks your having so much trouble getting it right.

As far as styling it, ive done ALOT of trial and error and my hair also likes to curl at the tips a little bit.

This should work really good for you.
1. Wash hair, blow dry.
2.Use some got to be or spiker hair gel(trust me) to just get it to stand up and become managable. Use a fine comb brush to make it nice. It should start to get hard, dont worry.
3. Hair spray a section on both sides, comb once again and use your hand to pull the hair up into the position that you want it to be. I like my hair perfectly straight, bottom to top, so i grab it very firmly, run the comb through and then blow dry. I repeat this for all sections of my hair.
4. After that is done, your hawk should look pretty good, im very picky, so i end up going back over finished sections and spraying more hairspray, brushing again and then blow drying it.

Its important to hold the hair how you want it because it will then stay like that once you blow dry it. Ive tried just straight hairspray without gel and it worked ok but its just to hard to manage, holding up hair that doesnt want to stay like that. With the gel, your hair will pretty much want to stand up but all the holding and hairspray work will make it not curl on the tips and become more perfect. After some practice your hair should look like mine.
