Did you get a mohawk, piercing's ect...
for going against societies norms vs. wanting attention via further decoration.
(be honest with yourself)
The best thing you can do for yourself is to be yourself, females are the worst for being fashion punks.
What's your rational opinion?
no bickering

You know Dawn, this is an interesting question, as there are so many different reasons for why we do what we do. Coincidentally, we were actually discussing this very question in a way yesterday with my Family as it kind of came up when they saw my Hawk for the first time ever. The discussion moved to why do people, especially girls, get piercings and tattoos? They were using an example of a local girl that for most of society would be considered extremely pretty, why would she go and pierce her beautiful face with an eyebrow, snake bites, and a nose ring piercing, thus making her attractive face less attractive on purpose. Since I have upwards of 16 piercings myself, and three tattoos, of which none of my family knows about, I didn't really want to get into this discussion at the time. It may turn bad and destroy Xmas Supper...lol.But it had me thinking of just what you are asking in this question.....why do we do it?
For me, the reason I have my tatts, piercings, and Hawk have absolutely nothing to do with trying to go against Society.....a Hawk, piercings, or tatts are definitely not for everyone and that is okay. We wouldn't want every person to look the same now would we? I also do not do it to attract attention, although that can't really be helped as it isn't the "norm" in society, so attracting attention is just a side effect, whether wanted or not. I have my body mods and Hawk because I just love them.....plain and simple. It is unfortunate that these side effects have to happen, but I guess it helps us to strengthen our resolve to keep our Hawks and modifications, because if we can't stand up and be proud of ourselves, then we shouldn't do it in the first place.
This is why this Site is so great...it helps us all deal with these problems we may encounter.....just like you asking this question will help others out with the answers that will be posted! Let's keep up helping each other!
I got my 'hawk just because I needed a change. I've always regarded myself as a weirdo or an outcast, mainly because of my disability. I've previously shaved one side of my head and then go to a regular short cut.
I don't care who hates it. I love it and that's all that matters to me.
I think that you are who you are and that you should do whatever it is to make yourself an individual instead of going "with the trends".
first of all thank you all for putting it in a rational based anecdote form, instead of feeding me the same dribble people pull from song lyrics XD
but I can completely to all of your points of views.
And while I strongly agree you don't have to make yourself look different from the norm to be yourself,i also feel that people who do stray from the norm do it for the wrong reasons.
for many personal reasons I find modification as the closest thing I have to spirituality since I really don't have much beyond physics to believe in.
so people who don't put much thought into modification besides decoration leaves me feeling conflicted, though I have nothing against the empowering feeling you can have from how it makes you look sexy and or bad ass.
Awesome.....what implants are you wanting?
Hmmmm........I don't know much about them.....saw a show one time on a fellow that had them done and it went wrong.....he had to take them out. How big can you go with them?
Hi B! How are the dermals coming......got em done yet?
I got a mohawk cause well its a turn on in my eyes. Plus when i was little i used to see punks around a lot and thought it was the coolest thing ever, and looked up to them and my brother was a punk rocker so i guess he passed it down to me without realizing he was doing it. i defiantly like going against society and the norms. the punk chicks here just rip up some clothes but STILL make themselves out to be objects and strive perfection because society says so, and i am against it completely. most girls dont have the balls to shave off a bunch of hair and put Elmers Glue in it to get it to stick up, but i can and being different makes me feel less like a fuckin sheep in a nation run by wolves and controlled by pigs.
I look the way I do because when I don't, I don't feel right. I get depressed, I don't feel like myself. It's the most comfortable way to live for me. I started getting massively pierced when I was 15, and even became a piercer at 16, now I'm a professional. Without my piercings, tattoos, hair, and clothes, I don't feel confident. I get a lot of funny looks too, especially when I'm out with my son. I also get a lot of shit from my family. Despite that, I wouldn't find MYSELF attractive if I looked any other way.
What an odd question... I'm having problems understanding so i'll try to answer to the best of my ability.
I got my mohawk because I've always wanted one. Ever since early elementary school i've always wanted a blue mohawk and my nose pierced... i remember a bunch of girls making fun of me once because i told them and that sort of thing was for "boys only".
With my hair cut in a hawk, I feel more comfortable, confident and beautiful. I think its a big fuckin shame that I get so much attention for it too. I'm not really a big fan of getting attention and can't understand why people care more about how I look than how they look.
as for other "female decorations" (vaginal modifications?) I don't have any.
I don't have a lot of facial piercings because I feel like my face isn't built for that much metal. I only get piercings because i like how they look aesthetically and/or would like to draw attention to that part of my body (huzzah, because thats what they do). If i were to add anything else to my face it would be a dermal anchor on my cheek bone (cause i fucking love my cheek bones) and a vertical labret.
However currently i can't get those because I have a job that i really enjoy. Maybe a few months from now when i go into theatre.
"females are the worst for being fashion punks."
I'd disagree with that, I've seen much more guys being "fashion punks" than girls.
I guess i got a mohawk because i felt like it. I love punk rock. To me, hair and clothes is a huge gateway for expression. Like Boogle, I have always wanted one but i was told it was only for boys. My mohawk also brings a great deal of confidence, I don't know why.
I only have my belly pierced, it sucks. I don't like it lol. I want a septum because its so easy to hide. And well, also my eyebrow and nose and bridge.
