So I just got my mohawk today and for the life of me I can't get it to stay up without curving to one side. All the product I have is a thing of gel and if possible I want to avoid buying more stuff... Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If it's less than 6", then strong hold hairspray is a lot better for it - gel is too heavy. Spray in at the roots, holding it up with a comb, blast for a long time with a hairdrier and then spray more on further up, and repeat.
I'd never use gel for more than an inch or two. Though I have seen someone show me how good Got2BeGlue was on webcam here - he had a 'hawk around 6" to 8" and it lasted all day fine. It's too expensive for my taste though. :)
Hairspray, g2b it only like $3 where I am and works great. Also, get a straightener and straighten the ends once the hairspray has dried
Yeah, cheap hairspray works pretty alright - sometimes the standard shop brand ones have a lot firmer hold though. I used to use really cheap Tesco hairspray, but they changed it and I had to move up to a bit dearer one to get any hold again! =)
