Liberty Spikes

I am trying to do liberty spikes but I am running into some problems. My hair is really thick and it's hard to try to section it without getting too much that you don't want. I need to know what the best thing to use to get it to stand-up too. I do have freeze spray that instantly hardens when you blow dry it but it's hard not to spray all the other hair still laying down and when that happens it's stuck like that. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I used gorilla snot (can get it at wal-mart for around$1-$2). when I tried liberty spikes. That and shaving cream seemed to work best.

When you do your spikes start with the crown of your head and work outwords from there is the only advice I can give. Didn't have the spikes long enough to figure out more than that!
