What annoys me about the mass media and many of my peers is that they believe that anarchy is a left wing ideology. It is not. A left wing ideology is Socialism. Socialism is all about BIG GOVERNMENT. Anarchy is about no government. So how can anarchy be in the same category as socialism. Simple, it isn't. The tattoo on my right arm was derived from a thought on how anarchy is related to libertarianism. I see the similarity. Both are centrist views.

Now I know that some people will disagree with me, and I respect their opinion, but the fact of the matter is that anarchy (in its original form) has nothing to do with the left. Think about it, the right wants small government, the left wants big government, and anarchists want no government. Hmmm....small government is closer to no government.

But before everyone is furious and typing long responses, I will address one group of anarchists. They are called left anarchists. Left anarchy is a branch of the original theory of anarchy, but that certainly is not enough to say that anarchy is left wing. The followers of left wing anarchy believe in social anarchy, where no private property exists.

In the end anarchy is a unique ideology and it is not left or right wing.

As a punk, I can proudly say that I am a libertarian, and I know that many more people on this forum are as well.

I almost started a thread asking about right wing punk. I'm glad I'm not the only one here. I'd like to think that I fall into the category of libertarian, but lately, I've been looking at objectivism, and liking it.

We where talking about the Missouri primary the other day at the local hookah lounge, and I put on some Dead Kennedys. My friend pointed out that they could almost be considered right wing in some of their ideology. It's an interesting thought, and thinking more on it, alot of punk could be considered right wing in the ideology. I think this has to do with the anarcho-punk ideology.

Either way, it's interesting to think about.

How are the Dead Kennedys right wing in some of their ideologys? O_o

Quote some lyrics that show this please

It's a trap. Seriously, I'll go ahead and retract the DK statement. I know they're a largely left wing band. If not for the pile of homework I have sitting in front of me, I might go and quote you some lyrics, do some research to prove my side of the point, etc. Retracting it is easier right now though. My bad for a stupid statement.

Jello Biafra was pretty leftist. He was critical of police and government, of course, which is probably where your buddies got the wrong impression. A lot of the "anarchist" punks are just lefties who don't like to take orders. To him though, capitalists were government, not free individuals. I think the term reason.com uses is Crony Corporatism, which is like government helping businesses.

Punk isn't really a political wing though. I think the op meant that anarchy is not left-wing, which media sources attempt to portray it as. Some how anarchism and left-wing academia became amalgamated over the past few decades. I think it has a lot to do with the intellectual elitism of higher education. Punks I've met are usually pretty smart people, and once they get into college they turn into feminists, animal rights activists, environmentalists, etc.. The crass, flux of pink indians, crustie type music was all about these topics. I always preferred punk that didn't suck.
