What annoys me about the mass media and many of my peers is that they believe that anarchy is a left wing ideology. It is not. A left wing ideology is Socialism. Socialism is all about BIG GOVERNMENT. Anarchy is about no government. So how can anarchy be in the same category as socialism. Simple, it isn't. The tattoo on my right arm was derived from a thought on how anarchy is related to libertarianism. I see the similarity. Both are centrist views.
Now I know that some people will disagree with me, and I respect their opinion, but the fact of the matter is that anarchy (in its original form) has nothing to do with the left. Think about it, the right wants small government, the left wants big government, and anarchists want no government. Hmmm....small government is closer to no government.
But before everyone is furious and typing long responses, I will address one group of anarchists. They are called left anarchists. Left anarchy is a branch of the original theory of anarchy, but that certainly is not enough to say that anarchy is left wing. The followers of left wing anarchy believe in social anarchy, where no private property exists.
In the end anarchy is a unique ideology and it is not left or right wing.
As a punk, I can proudly say that I am a libertarian, and I know that many more people on this forum are as well.

The London riots are a good example. I say the same for OWS.
In the U.S. all you hear is that OWS is being taken over by radical anarchists. Exactly why I hate the media. Once again....proof the media believes all anarchists are left wing and they certainly aren't.
Classifying an ideology as just left or right is kinda stupid in my opinion. There should be at least two dimensions (left/right and up/down) with the left/right referring to government involvement in economics (from communism all the way to complete free market) and the up/down referring to government involvement in social/moral issues (from totalitarianism all the way to anarchy)
Technically a true anarchist would be a right bottom person by this definition. Which is why it pisses me off too when people say anarchists are on the left. I would definitely be somewhere in this bottom right area and i think you would too.
Left anarchy isnt real anarchy, its a just ridiculous hypocrisy in my opinion. How can you want government control economically and not socially? You dont see people saying they want a authoritarian government but a free economy! *(Except radical republicans like frickin Rick Perry! smh..)
Thanks for bringing up the multi-dimensional idea of viewing an ideology. You got it right. Many great thinkers have viewed ideologies in this manner where social and economic issues are on a different axis.
I don't follow left or right, No gov't and I would be happy. So an anarchist I may be.
In the true socialist ideals (For note, I have read the manifesto written by Karl Marx) and the government is a temporary solution, until everyone can work in harmony, so then they slowly break it away, ending in a utopia where everybody can work in harmony, without need of a government. GET SOME!
True enough. Socialism is an ideal used to achieve communism. And practical Communism is a fancy word for fascism. They base almost no difference. Communism is so far leftwing, it circles and becomes rightwing.
Innovation, integrity, love of life and individuality makes short work of communism too, bro.
?
Anarchy is the end of the right-wing spectrum, It is the antithesis of totalitarianism which is absolute leftism, as far left as you can go. It's typical for people to consider Anarchists a left-wing identity because of all the academic influence the modern institutes of education have over the political landscape, especially with the youth. Most of the colleges today are left, not anarchist. This is progressive, socialist, communist, etc... with an almost orgiastic love affair with the state. The "rebels" of our time are really just a bunch of crybabies that want the government to take care of them like lost children at a greyhound station trying to find his parents because he knows not what to do on his own... like a wounded boy yearning for the sanctity and safety of his mothers' embrace.
