I don't know why people get upset at the idea for using a sewing machine, but I enjoy using one when I can. Sewing crap on pants or a sleeve or fixing holes is by hand, but when it's altering shirts or pants to fit or back patches, I use my sewing machine. Maybe it's just preference some don't have, or maybe I'm just clued out that lots of others do use one.... Or there's a secret unwritten rule that declares punk sewing is always done by hand with friggin dental floss. The fact I'm keeping to the DIY system of making my own clothes and staying away from store bought crap made in China; Value Village loving and second hand repairing, isn't that what the root of the idea comes from?Sewing Machines are great for quick fixes, can be as durable as floss if you do it right, no limit to new ideas and it's great fun!
Sorry, a severe rant. Screw all you snobs who think that just because you sew 'everything' by hand gives you any better right and personal. Thank you, have a good night.

Never heard of any one having something against sewing machines...... I personally use one i love it makes altering my pants a lot fucking easier but patches of course are still sewn on by hand. Sewing is a great fun thing for me and im almost to the point where i can just make anything from just pieces of random material.
Isn't the material we still use and stuff still made in china though ??? just alot cheaper
I need to buy one. Most manufactures tend to make clothes for people who are tall and overweight..
I'm a fashion student... FTW!
I use the shit outta my machines, and use my school's industrial Juki machines as much as I can.
I'll pass on the argument against 'em. But how bout this... buy a used machine and thrift your materials. Win Win!
my grandma gave me her old sewing machine :p i dont use it much tho unless im sewing a patch to a leather jacket, i hand sew most of my shit
hmm i think the only reason why people would give you shit about using a sewing machine is because they think you're rich or something.
and apparently kids with rich parents can't be punk or whatever. Which is silly because im pretty sure punk was never about being poor...
I have a sewing machine/serger/dressform, I'm studying to be a costume designer so i have all the fun little tools and machines.
I hate hand sewing, it takes forever and doesn't hold up for shit. if i can afford a machine, why not buy one and use it? why would i stick to something thats slower and shittier? what? to be accepted? fuck that, i have more important things to worry about than popularity... I also have more important things to do than to sit around and hand sew all of my shit.
Oh thank you. i think that's it. I can be in a group of travelers and someone can bitch me out about not sewing by hand, and later that night on the side someone else can ask me to sew for them. It's bs. I got a sewing machine as a gift and I plan to use it.
:)
