i've never been to a show alone, and if i lived near you, i would TOTALLY go see reel big fish with you :)

but the whole punk/ska community is very friendly and you will make new friends. and especially if you know people that are going to be there. then you're totally good to go! have fun!
I just went to a show by myself this past week. It was way fun. There were people there I had met/known from other shows, but no one I had ever hung out with outside of that. I recommend going and making a new friend. Also wearing unique to you clothing can often spark conversation. Good luck and I hope you enjoy the show if you decide to go!
Don't let that stop you. As was already mentioned, the punk/ska/etc communities are really friendly...generally at shows it's just kids wanting to have some beers, let loose and enjoy live music. Walk up and say hello, strike up a conversation about something you noticed about the person or what's going on around you...and if you run into one uptight person, keep trying not everyone's like that. As nice it is having people you know there to share the experience, if you don't it shouldn't stop you from enjoying one of the main reasons you're there...the music. I've had a great time by myself and also made some of my best friends to this day when I was able to spend some time talking to those around me instead of just the group I came with.
Way to go Ms. Grindcore Bastard....I wish I did not have the social anxiety I have...Because I know my best friends to be are all at them...Keep spreading the good word!!!
damn I need to see Big D again, they opened for FM and I've been craving one of their concerts for a while now
Don't be afraid to go to shows alone. It's less scary than you might think.
When I first started going to shows, I had no one to go with either, but the more shows I went to, the more people I recognized. I am shy as well, but forced myself to make small talk with strangers, now whenever I go to shows, I know at least a couple of people in the crowd.

Just go! You'll have fun.
I go to shows alone quite a lot as all my friends with similar musical taste live far away :(
The one advantage of this is you will probably come away with a few new friends you meet in the crowd / queue. The amount of people I know purely from meeting at gigs is getting over 50 now and still rising. In fact, I met my best friend at a gig I went to alone.

So yes, it's definately worth going. Especially since you'll have fun anyway, you go for the music mostly.
Your intimidated of a ska show?? Really?
I had no friends before I went to shows. I always go to shows alone but now I have people I'm comfortable talking to. Just do it.
well said foreverdown. I've been to lots of shows alone. A few times one thing or another has made me nervous and I've been known to ask an employee of the venue to walk me to my car (memphis's mass transit is a joke and doesn't run after 9 pm anyway, so you take your car to everything). I have never ever been refused this courtesy by any venue. Once I asked a bar tender to find me an escourt to my car (there's been a string of club you in the head and take your purse/wallet type events in that neighborhood) and as it turns out the only person available for such a task was the guy that runs the place. I ended up making a new friend and as the venue is one of those "well let anyone or anything that can bring a crowd book a night' had a fantastic conversation about what our city is lacking and what is working and what me and "my kind" would pay to see more of.
I do not recommend asking just any random person to walk you to your car...they may very well be the person you are trying to avoid meeting alone in a dark parking lot, go for a staff member.
yikes better stand next to some other kids there and pretend youre with them or everyone will point and laught at you
I would think that at that point being laughed at isn't your main concern. Wow, big deal, you're being laughed at. Better than than being hurt.
