What is your local music scene like? Mine is mostly metalcore bands, maybe 3 punk bands that don't play 18+, Some hardcore bands, lot's of indie and acoustic, a fair bit of rock, lot's of violence and drama, but it's not too bad.
1 Horror Punk Band, 1 Street Punk Band, 1 NOFX-ish punk band, and then dozens of Emo/screamo bands and a lot of hardcore. Nothing else. Music's pretty bad down here. =/
Sad part is, I have never really been to a local punk show. I am the only guy in my social group that is really into punk, I want to go but I would be going solo which kinda puts me off. But I am missing out on too much, which is why I am going to a local band this Friday, I will tell you after that =P
good thing about toronto is theres tons of great bands always playing.
if its not bands touring(jello biafra, screeching weasel, the specials) then there are some amazing 'middle' bands. the ones who can afford to travel city to city but not country to country. shows are usually like 15$ and there are some great bands (the brains, planet smashers, flatliners)
as for small time in-city bands there are some great ones, with always a place to play. i can very rarely make these shows because there on the whim and i got work. but there's more then a few places that are 5$ per head and have some amazing punk bands going on.
a local venue that has really made its name is the sister neveu that holds tons of small punk and hardcore bands, 8$ a head and BYOB and BYOC(bring your own chair lol)
overall, the scene is slowly coming back, the past few years hasn't been very good, but there are some people and bands that are really starting to rise to the occasion.
(there is also a pretty good metal scene. and a pretty big indie and emo scene, i don't go to many shows of any of them, but i do have friends that are parts of it. also the Rap and R&B scene seems to be striving)
honestly, i've never hear of sister neveu... where is it?
theres quite the good underground scene sometimes too. like.. in kensington market, there was the goof hole... which was steve goof's house that he converted into a venue. unfortunately the place doesn't exist anymore :( had some really great times there though.
Siesta Nouveaux i just butchered the spelling lol its at 15 lower Sherbourne only ever been there once.
and ya i love kensington, i usually go to graffities every Wednesday to watch a friends blue-grass band play but they also have a death metal brunch. the rearview mirror aswell always has some good bands going for really cheap.
A lot of great local bands. I have been missing in action though so I haven't been up to date on the local scene recently but I am pretty sure it's mostly punk bands the occasional metal or hardcore band. And some genres that I don't think I can even name.
The most widespread favorites among the population are reggae, rap and dub-step, so yay for the plague. There's about 3 small cities with a less than 15 mile spread between them in which there are a few houses that get smaller punk/crust/grind bands stopping by which tends to be a night of drinking, moshing, and music. Can't go wrong there...almost always the same crowd and local punk bands tend to share members. Metal scene is a handful of bands and there's about one band each for ska and psychobilly. There's a few kids that are really motivated and bring in the larger shows themselves so we've had Toxic Narcotic, Instant Asshole, Creepshow, Koffin Kats, Voodoo Glow Skulls, Hank III, etc. Overall, it isn't horrible...
I have to admit, I have no idea - except for the music played during the summer festivals here (which comes up again in a couple weeks). None of it appeals to me. heh But then, not unexpected 'cause I like in a small country village with not much variety around.
Tacoma=Drama, just like the song i wrote, "Tacoma=Drama", the music scene is pathetic, few venues, most places do the rap/r&b crap, viaduct venue in Tacoma, which is "alcohol free drug free" does a few punk bands but mostly "emo"/"hardcore", i say "hardcore" because that's what the pussy, black haired bangs banging bands like to refer to themselves as
But yeah haha, mostly just teh' wannabe Black Dahlia Murder type stuff
