Unity..

I have what I feel is a valid question for debate. Not trying to start drama, so keep it clean (no low blows haha) and reasonable. This is one of those things you would probably debate with your friends when you're high as a kite =]

Why push the scene for unity?
What "cause(s)" are we trying to unite everyone for?

Or are we trying to create peace between social groups...?
Each clique has it's own motives to do what they do, and the obvious fact is, we are human, and it's hard to live without the drama, unless we are rallying for a strong, central cause.

I think it's great, in theory, to keep everyone on the same page and stuff (that way the lines of communication are open from one end to the other for all sorts of things), but at the same time, there is no obvious central cause at this current point in time.
Reasons for or against unity could also vary from region to region, etc. since not all continents are created equal.

I see it the same way I see workmates.

"We don't have to like each other, just find a way to get along."

It's something that's been discussed at work and everyone has pretty much agreed that it's sensible. Too much in fighting breaks down groups. Smaller groups die.

Yep, I agree. It's always best to have some agreed lines on ways to get along. I guess that's what 'protocols' are good for. And with a concept as wide as 'unitty' in a 'group'. I think the best thing would be to raise manners and avoid confrontational or derisive stuff.

It's especially true when you are dealing with people you have just met and don't know well. To get along, you have to care and not be careless. Of course, you can have a unifying by purposefully behaving in one way - but the wider the net of people, the more likely you'll cause problems if you don't take into account others sensibilities. It's just reality.

Plus, you can't win over everyone - but at very least being civil lets you get along with others you agree to disagree with. But I don't believe we'll ever be unified. =)

I read your posts and I love them. lol

But i see unity as not just working with eachother, but Too many people these days worry about what group they're in, and they only talk to those peopal. They dont wanna be seen talking to anyone else it seems like. Me and two other people are prety much the only pun kkids at our school, but I get a long with everyone, I dont keep to my little "clique" that makes me look bad and it goes against what I think is right. If you are a punk, goth, prep, jock, emo, nerd, gangsta, or scene kid, you shouldnt hold that against everyone else, just leave it alone, and find something you have in common with those people and dont woory about the lables. If someone doesnt see things the way you do, talk with them about, express your views, oppinons, and beliefs, and let the otther person do the same, if it doesnt work, then oh well. Dont let it break you two apart, thats just silly.

there is no unity because there is no peace
there are causes but nothing to really agree on not even within the "punk" subculture
people on an individual scale will victimize and exploit the rights and beliefs of others, therefore we will always have conflict.

i feel that people should find what they believe and support that on an individual level, if it works for them and others want it then they will try it. unity through a music, an image, or a collection of trendy causes (hating nazis, straightedge, even vegetarianism) is not real unity. I believe that people are really out of touch with what unity means. The only way unity will ever come about is through force and that i cannot advocate. If doing good was compulsory then would it really be "good"?

Free will is a great thing, but it too is an object of abuse and negates the concept of world peace and unity. Free will permits different ideologies and the abuse of those ideologies leads to feelings of superiority/inferiority, when this takes place people will repress the human rights of others in the name of their ideologies (racial/class/religious/political affiliations) and in so doing peace and unity fade away and exist only in our imaginations.

In saying this, deny it all you want to but it seems like people continue to strive for the impossible thinking it is still there. My life is less stressed because i have the beliefs i do i am comfortable with that and i don't feel the need to really belong because in reality what good does it do? Punk/nazi/prep any clique you want to associate with might as well just be another warring faction. I refuse to participate.

BTW i don't identify myself as a punk, i am who i am. i like punk rock but the best songs aren't ones promoting the punk lifestyle. I have my beliefs and i express them in my music. Whatever happened to bands like that? They said what they wanted to and got off the fuckin' stage. If people agreed then cool, if not then fuck 'em. We live in a world that is so hung up on association that people have lost individuality. What I strive for is tolerance, all people accepting each other for what they are instead of changing what they are just to "belong".
