Mohawks Rock

Hi,

I've only had my mohawk for 2 weeks now and only joined this website about an hour ago (although I've been reading for the last day).

Anyway... In about a week and a half I'm flying to Sydney (from Cairns) to meet up with my sister and her boyfriend, and then driving down to Canberra to catch up with the rest of my family.

I'm wondering what other peoples experience is with flying with their mohawk.
I want to fly with it up, but will I get hassled a lot? Are the plane seats too cramped and will I have to turn my head to even lean back in the seat?.

Since this is my first post on this forum I should give a little information about myself.

I'm 28. I live in Cairns, Australia (In North Queensland). I'm Filipino, but I've lived in Australia since the beginning of 1986.

I work as games manager at a large chain of retail stores that sells DVDs, CDs, Games, computers, cameras and hifi equipment in Australia. We have no work uniform (except for nothing offensive), so my mohawk has never been an issue.
Each spike is just over 25cms long (10 inches).
I'm 6' tall, so with my hair that makes me about 6' 10".

I asked my friend to shave my head and help me make my mohawk 2 weeks ago. Why?
Because here in Cairns it's too hot and humid to have long hair like mine. That and I wanted to show my workmates what working in this store is all about. We're almost encouraged to have tattooes and piercings.
In fact my other games guy and I are often remembered by customers as "Tattoo" and "Mohawk".

The other thing is that I've always wanted to do it. I've been losing my hair on top since I was 18 (If you look at my front spike you'll see it's much more sparse than the others), so I wanted to do it before I go bald. Plus I'm in the perfect work environment.

Customers love it, I'm easy to find and if anyone doesn't like it, they are usually too scared to tell me. Plus the posers with their tiny 1 inch fauxhawk that think their hair is awesome see mine and shut up.

That night my friends did my mohawk with no hairdryer. I originally wanted a fan, but with the lack of hair on top, I changed to spikes.

Other photos are more recent and show that I'm getting better at putting it up (although it's definitely not perfect).

Anyway back on topic.

No worries.

Of course my experiences might be different to yours. I'm reasonably tall without my mohawk (6'0")and with it I'm 6'10"
That was my main concern. At that height I would be hitting the roof of the plane when standing, and hitting the overhead compartment when sitting.

Other thing is that I would flatten the back of my hair when I sit back in the seat. That's something for everyone to consider.
you don't need me to tell you to have it down when flying :) you figured that one out for yourself , I'm 6' as well and those planes are cramped little buggers , I do a fair bit of flying and it is always better to have it down , of course if your flying to Beijing then you have to have it up :) drives airport security nutts lol , just flew back to tas from Victoria this week as I have been fighting fires and retrieving bodies there , should be ok where your going though .
Yeah I don't think anyone has forgotten what has been happening in Victoria. I have a friend with family in Healesville and she's been worried constantly because every town around it has been affected.

I'm only going to be in the city and Calder Park Raceway.

If I'm ever in Tassie again, I'll let you know. I loved Tassie when I visited back in 2005. Took 1500+ photos on my 10 day trip. Got a few friends down there I want to visit again too.

I don't usually fly a lot, but I'm finding myself flying a lot more than expected. Most of it is not work related either.
holy shit morris!!!! you work in cairns central
Yes I do. I think everyone in Cairns Central knows who I am. Or at least what I look like and where I work.
haha, i went in a open-cockpit biplane ride with my mohawk, that was rough
i had an hour and a half flight with my hawk up.it wasn't too bad, i rested my head against the window and read a book about darby crash.
